MAFS UKs Matt and Whitney allowed to stay on show after wife swap drama

Matt Murray and Whitney Hughes were granted permission to stay on Married At First Sight UK after requesting to stay on the show as a couple despite recent drama.

Matt, 32, and Whitney, 31, decided to pursue their connection despite being married to other people on the E4 show.

The pair then asked the relationship experts – Paul Brunson, Mel Schilling and Charlene Douglas – if they could stay in the experiment as a new couple.

Tonight's show showed Paul, Mel and Charlene trying to come to a conclusion as they sat down with Whitney and Matt, who explained why they felt they should be able to stay on MAFS together.

Mel, Paul and Charlene weren't best pleased with the duo's explanations and Paul told them both that they had "broke the code" before saying that he could not "endorse" them going back into the experiment as a new couple.

However, he then said he could tell Whitney is really into Matt and had noticed a change her behaviour, with Mel revealing that the experts had checked out the "science" which showed the couple to be a good match on paper.

The three experts then announced that they are willing to let them back into the experiment as a new couple, but they will be 'dating' rather than married in the experiment.

In recent episodes, Matt and wife Gemma Rose, as well as Whitney and husband Duka Cav, had to decide whether to stay or leave the experiment.

All four contestants chose to leave the experiment, with Whitney and Matt revealing they're going to give things a go.

After choosing to leave, Matt explained: "It would be nice to get the experiment with Whitney and see how that can develop. I'd be absolutely frickin' insane and stupid not to pursue it."

Whitney then added: "Matt and I are like fresh, if we could have the help of the experts and find out whether this is something that we should put our lives and our time and our hearts into, that would be amazing."

Matt and Whitney were forced to address the situation in the commitment ceremony, which saw Whitney confess she didn't feel she had done anything wrong as she said Gemma and Matt's relationship was "dead in the water".

The pair received backlash from their co-stars and viewers for the way they handled the complex situation.

Married At First Sight UK airs on Channel 4 Monday to Thursday.
