Barrymore: The Body in the Pool airs on Channel 4 this evening with the network stating it will “explore the full story behind one of Britain’s most high-profile unexplained deaths, as told by the people closest to it.” However, Michael Barrymore, 67, himself, has urged fans to watch a separate interview for the “full story.”
The former game show host and TV personality took to Twitter tonight to share a statement regarding the new 90-minute documentary.
Michael began the clip by stating: “I’ve been asked by various sections of the press to comment upon the Channel 4 documentary that is to be broadcast tonight.
“As I’ve made clear to everyone, I’m not able to comment because Channel 4 are refusing to show it to me or even let me know what it contains.
After briefly apologising for reading from his iPad, Michael then suggests fans watch an alternative interview.

He continued: “However, I will say to anyone who would like to get to the truth of the matter that they should watch the ITV interview I did last year with Piers Morgan.
“He went into everything and left no stone unturned.
“The truth is I have always done everything anyone has asked of me and I’ve co-operated with everyone.
“Essex police’s own QC has said that: ‘We know that Mr Barrymore has had nothing to do with this, and that there is no evidence linking him to the injuries of Mr Lubbock or the pool.’”
Michael added: “I have had nothing to do with this whatsoever and yet I keep getting bashed and bullied by the media.
“I may comment further once I’ve seen the show go out after tonight.
“In the meantime, my heartfelt sympathies are with the Lubbock family and I truly hope they find peace.
“It is for that reason that I have constantly pressed for an independent police force to investigate everything to do with the case and reach a proper conclusion.”

In response to Michael’s claims, Channel 4 told Express.co.uk: “We are not obliged to show the subjects of documentaries programmes before broadcast.
“Mr Barrymore was given a fair opportunity to respond to the matters raised in the film and his position is fairly included in it.”
Speaking back in January when the documentary was commissioned Terry Lubbock, the father of the late Stuart, told Channel 4: “This documentary is about the questions around what happened to my son Stuart Lubbock.
“Finally. The story has become so distorted and confused over the years. So much has been said and written.”
He added: “It’s time to put all the facts together in one place.”

Channel 4 commissioning editor Alisa Pomeroy added in regards to the show: “This film is a reflective piece that tells the story of an unexplained tragedy that unfolded in the glare of an unforgiving media.
“It sheds light on the complex relationship between celebrity, the criminal justice system and an all-powerful tabloid press in the early noughties,
“But most of all, it’s the deeply moving story of the Lubbock family’s continuing quest for answers and justice, nearly 20 years on.”
Barrymore: The Body in the Pool premieres on Channel 4 tonight at 9pm.
