Netflix subscribers have been left freaked out after the series My Secret Terrius appeared to predict the current coronavirus outbreak.
An episode in the 10th season showed the virus being mutated in order for it to be used as a weapon.
‘Someone tweaked it to increase the mortality rate to 90%,’ a doctor is seen saying in the fictional show, after comparing it to MERS.
‘What’s more serious,’ she adds: ‘Is that the coronavirus has an incubation period of two to 14 days.
‘The virus was manipulated to attack the lungs directly within just five minutes of being exposed.’
But while viewers squirmed at the thought of the network seeing into the future, it turns out we all just need to calm down and wash our hands, as coronavirus has been around a lot longer than people are aware of.
The term coronavirus has historically referred to a number of viruses, including the common cold before it was associated with Covid-19.
It’s a collection of viruses that cause diseases in both mammals and birds, and comes from the Latin word ‘corona’, which means ‘halo’ or ‘crown’.
So it kind of makes sense now why the kingdom Rapunzel was locked away from in Tangled was called Corona.
The viruses themselves normally lead to an upper respiratory infection as well as a runny nose, sore throat, cough, and fever, such as that of Covid-19, with several different strains currently identified.
Some severe strains include the MERS-CoV, the SARS-CoV, as well as the latest outbreak of the new 2019 Novel Coronavirus, which originated in Wuhan, China.
Even before Covid-19, it was said that most people would be infected by a coronavirus at least once in their lifetime.
The virus in the Netflix show was also thought to be manmade.
And while there has been conspiracy theories like this in regards to Covid-19, scientists believe the source of the outbreak came from an animal.
It’s been postulated that the virus could have spread to humans via bats, snakes or even pangolins, although it’s not yet known for sure which type of animal was the source.
My Secret Terrius is currently available to watch on Netflix.
