New TV channel promises unprecedented access to nature in real-time

Viewers who love to get up close and personal with nature can now watch real-time safaris thanks to the new WildEarth channel which just launched in the UK.

Available on Freeview, the channel will transport wildlife fans to the plains of South Africa with its daily sunrise and sunset safaris, as well as several other unscripted and authentic wildlife experiences.

Already boasting more than seven million unique monthly viewers worldwide, the shows are now available to watch in the UK.

Some of the programming highlights include SafariLIVE, which offers twice-daily live safaris from several different African wilderness reserves.

During these safaris, viewers will get a chance to observe everything from elephants, leopards, hyenas, lions and rhinos going about their daily lives, while LIVE at the Waterhole will highlight both predators and prey as they come together to drink and bathe.

The first for UK broadcasters will bring the wonders of wildlife directly into viewers’ living rooms.

It will give them the experience of being on a safari vehicle in the African bush.

The coverage is designed to focus on capturing the special serendipitous moments happening every day, allowing fans to truly feel the connection between themselves and the natural world.

Emily Wallington, the cofounder of WildEarth, expressed her excitement: “WildEarth is all about connecting people to nature in a real and unscripted way – in effect we are the largest safari vehicle in the world.”

She continued: “This helps viewers to understand nature for what it really is and to see why we need to conserve our beautiful habitats.

“This partnership with Freeview in the UK is a major step in achieving this as we reach British viewers who love nature and care about the planet.”

The channel also hopes to serve as a much-needed antidote to the stresses of modern-day life.

David Coughtrie, SDN Managing Director, added: “The launch of WildEarth on Freeview via SDN brings a whole new kind of broadcasting to viewers at a time when the message of conservation and nature has never been more important. It’s a unique way of using the power of live TV to allow viewers to experience the wonder of an African safari with two-way interaction and I’m really excited to be bringing it into British homes.”

UK viewers with older television sets may need to retune their Freeview devices to get access to the channel.

WildEarth is available on Freeview Channel 91.
