Piers Morgan has expressed his fear that trolls could get him kicked off Good Morning Britain for two weeks through the Government’s new coronavirus track and trace app.
After calling out Dominic Cummings for breaking lockdown rules, the presenter discussed the new system which will locate people who have been close to someone infected with Covid-19.
They will then contact those people and inform them they must self-isolate for 14 days even if they do not have symptoms.
‘What’s to stop somebody just inventing the fact they were next to me for 15 minutes to get me off air for two weeks?’ Piers asked co-host Susanna Reid and Dr Hilary Jones.
‘I’m serious,’ Piers continued. ‘What’s to stop them doing it and how do I disprove it?

‘They could say, “I was sat in a cafe with Piers Morgan or I was sat in a park for 15 minutes and he’s definitely got it.”‘
Dr Hilary explained that there are measures in place to stop that from happening.
‘Well they can verify whether you’ve been tested positive or not,’ he responded.
‘If they phone you and say, “Someone has tested positive and we think you may be at risk, we think you should self-isolate and take a test”, you just need to verify who they are by phoning that number back.’
NHS England’s Covid-19 track and trace system launched last week and the Government believe it will be central to getting the country back to normality faster.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock unveiled the plans at a No 10 press briefing and told the public that it was their ‘civic duty’ to adhere to the new rules.
He said until there is an effective treatment or a vaccine, track and trace will be a ‘big part’ of getting back to ‘doing more of the things that make life worth living, without risking safety’.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
