Power spoilers: Ghost and Tommy reunion WON’T happen as showrunner ‘rules out’ comeback

Power Book II: Ghost and Power Book III: Raising Kanan may have had production halted as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, but it hasn’t stopped fans eagerly awaiting clues and spoilers from the Starz spin-offs. Showrunner Courtney Kemp recently took to Instagram to provide an update on the two series as well as delivering a huge blow to fans who were hoping to see Ghost (played by Omari Hardwick) back on their screens.

Ghost’s death at the end of Power season six definitely left a sour taste in the mouths of fans who’d followed his every move year upon year.

The drug kingpin met his demise at the hands of his son Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr), although it was his estranged wife Tasha (Naturi Naughton) who ultimately took the fall.

Ghost ended up dying in best friend Tommy Egan’s (Joseph Sikora) arms as the pair had finally overcome their differences.

The twist meant Tasha’s time behind bars and Tariq’s struggles at college will take centre stage in Power Book II with the spin-off picking up just days after Ghost’s death.

While Ghost’s death meant an appearance in Book II was near-impossible, some fans had hoped he would appear in Book III.

The third spin-off series in the franchise is the only one which acts as a prequel, examining the backstory of Ghost’s ally-turned-enemy Kanan (50 Cent).

Therefore, fans had been excited to see Tommy and Ghost back together on-screen in their younger years.

However, showrunner Courtney has appeared to rule out the highly-anticipated reunion, saying it was “never her intention” to see them back together.

Taking to Instagram Live earlier this month, the writer answered a number of fans’ questions.

One fan asked: “Will we get to see how Ghost and Tommy got into the position leading up to the series premiere?”

Courtney quickly put an end to the fan’s hopes, saying: “That’s never been my intention.”

She then explained exactly why the reunion storyline who be tricky to do.

The Power showrunner continued: “Only because, the problem with telling a story about Ghost and Tommy growing up is that it’s hard to put stakes in that since you know they both live.

“So it’s kind of a really difficult thing to do.”

Present-day Tommy will be the subject of his very own spin-off, however, titled Power Book V: Force.

The last fans saw of the drug dealer was his cruising out of New York and heading towards the west coast.
