Cold Case, the crime drama that aired on CBS from 2003 to 2010, has been off the air longer than it was on, but many fans still fondly remember the show. Unfortunately, it’s somewhat hard to watch because of music rights, which have tangled many disc releases of TV shows
Even though it’s not as easily available for streaming as some other shows, the six principal cast members of the show, Kathryn Morris, John Finn, Jeremy Ratchford, Thom Barry, Danny Pino, and Tracie Thoms, all went on to solid careers, often on other cop shows.
What happened to ‘Cold Case?’
Cold Case came out when crime shows were the hot ticket, particularly on CBS. Granted, there are few times when cop and crime shows aren’t hot tickets, but they particularly ruled the roost in the early 2000s, thanks to the success of CSI, its various spinoffs and other copycats.
The particular premise of Cold Case was its focus on the Philadelphia Police Department and Detective Lilly Rush (Morris) as they focused on those cases that had not been actively pursued by the department.
Each episode would usually spotlight one specific investigation, typically a murder. The show often featured double casting, with two actors playing a person at different points in time – when the crime originally took place and when the investigation was reopened. The show was one of Jennifer Lawrence’s pre-fame appearances.
The show had a strong run in its early seasons, peaking at number 14 in its second season. Unfortunately, a writer’s strike during the fifth season helped send the ratings tumbling. Cold Case was finally canceled after its seventh season, when the show ranked 29th in the ratings.
Music rights have kept the show from being released oh physical media, but it is available for streaming on The Roku Channel. A look at the actors’ IMDB credits reveals what else the actors appeared in.
