Rick and Morty was commissioned for 70 episodes by Adult Swim in 2018. This means if there continues to be 10 instalments per series, there is going to be at least six more seasons. A release date for season five might not have been announced yet but a new spin-off has continued to keep the conversation going.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Rick and Morty.
Are Rick and Morty the same person?
Rick and Morty vs Genocider is a Rick and Morty anime short created by Deen Digital with Takashi Sano serving as director and screenwriter.
In the short, Rick and Morty are being attacked by alien parasites and after a long battle, Rick is seen giving Morty a special potion.
This is to give his grandson the ability to sleep for a very long time without dying.
As Morty drinks the potion, Rick calls his grandson “Rick Sanchez” while their faces are seen overlapping on the screen.
Rick then develops superpowers but dies in battle and Morty is left to grow old in peace.
At the end, the Morty who has now grown older and resembles Rick, gets a call.
He is told Morty has been born and drinks another potion which gives him all of Rick’s memories.
This is so he can live the rest of his life as Rick rather than Morty.
So does this confirm that Rick and Morty really are the same person?
Another clue is then given as the new Rick is seen drinking the potion from his famous flask.
Rick is often seen getting his flask out and drinking an identified substance.
This has led many fans to question if what is inside the flask is juice from the Mega Trees, the reason behind why Rick is so intelligent.
However, following the release of Rick and Morty vs Genocider, there is now another theory.

Rather than the Mega Tree juice, it could actually be the potion which helps the new Rick retain all of his grandfather’s memories.
To maintain the illusion, he needs to keep taking doses of the potion, hiding the secret that he is actually Morty.
The Adult Swim sci-fi series often plays around with complicated concepts and this theory would fit in with some of the show’s most outrageous storylines.
If there is any truth in it, the creators could weave this theory into the upcoming season.
While creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon haven’t revealed when Rick and Morty season five will be coming out, they have been working hard on the new episodes.
Roiland even admitted that the writers have started preparation on series six which means season five is nearing completion.
Fans were also treated to a short unfinished clip of Morty meeting Rick’s nemesis Mr Nimbus for the first time.
As work on series five is well underway, the new episodes are expected to come out later this year.
Rick and Morty is available to watch on Adult Swim.
