Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) was left devastated in EastEnders when she heard the news that new friend Daniel Cook (Adrian Edmondson) had passed away after a battle with cancer. In spite of only knowing him a few months, Daniel had a huge impact on Jean’s life when he was alive, and he’s continued to do as even in ‘death’, as he informed her via video message to be bold, and to be herself.
Of course, viewers will know that Daniel isn’t really dead, but rather he faked his own passing so that he could spare Jean the pain of falling in love with him since she was going to have to lose him.
In typical Daniel fashion, he even had a memorial service — which neighbour Mike conducted —and Jean attended with Kush (Davood Ghadami) by her side.
Daniel left her a video message, informing her to live life as she saw fit — and to be bold, brave and, ultimately, be Jean.
In the coming episodes, Jean finds herself facing more turmoil when the Panesar clan arrive on her doorstep, before informing the whole Slater clan that they’ve bought the house. Viewers will remember that Mo received a letter several months back informing the occupants of the home that the property had been sold — but she failed to let her family know.
Jean’s incredibly upset, and she’s not feeling well as a result, so Kush offers to go to the hospital on her behalf and see her friend.
Later in the week, the Slater household descends into chaos as Mo finds herself public enemy number one, so Kush checks on Jean — but as he does so he overhears something in Daniel’s video message.
Has Kush worked out that Daniel’s not really dead?
Viewers have long wondered if Jean would discover the truth, so could Kush be the one to find out?
