Best known for her starring roles in Ugly Betty and Superstore, comedy TV star America Ferrera has just landed another major role in an upcoming film. After wrapping up a six-season stint on the NBC sitcom, she’ll be starring alongside Margot Robbie in the upcoming Barbie movie which is set to go into production later this year.
America will star alongside Harley Quinn’s Margot and La La Land A-Lister Ryan Gosling in the upcoming film based on one of the world’s most popular toys.
Details about her unnamed character are currently under wraps, while the formerly confirmed leads will be portraying Barbie and Ken, respectively.
The Superstore star’s involvement was announced this week, almost a year after her stint on the retail sitcom came to an end.
She told her 1.3 million Instagram followers about the news in her latest post, and received hundreds of excited reactions from her famous friends and fans.
“Come on Barbie, let’s go party,” she wrote, adding love heart and spark emojis.
Her exciting update drew plenty of support from other prominent members of Hollywood’s Latino community, including Zoe Saldana and Justina Machado.
NCIS star Wilmer Valderrama commented: “This is gonna be amazing! Killing it sis!”
Her Superstore co-stars Nichole Sakura and Nico Santos also celebrated the news.
Nico posted several heart and fire emojis and exclaimed: “Okaaaaaaaaaaay.”
And Nichole added: “Ok now I’m really excited for this movie.”
Oscar-nominated Greta Gerwig will be directing the film and co-writing with her partner and Marriage Story auteur Noah Baumbach.
Barbie is set to be the first live-action film based on the toy following a long line of animated projects based on the iconic fashionista.

Margot will produce the film through her LuckyChap Entertainment banner, as well as Robbie Brenner with toy giant Mattel.
Plot details are also sparse, for now, but America will undoubtedly be bringing even more charm to the already star-studded cast.
Millions of Superstore fans have grown to love the actress in her long-running role as store supervisor Amy Sosa and her relationship with sales associate Jonah Simms (Ben Feldman).

On the big screen, America is best known as the voice of Astrid in the internationally successful How to Train Your Dragon trilogy.
The actress will also be taking on a leading role in the upcoming miniseries WeCrashed for Apple TV+, with Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway.
