Talking Heads viewers left ‘emotionally shattered and chilled’ as grieving widow discovers husband was unfaithful

THE latest episode in Alan Bennett's Talking Heads has left viewers emotional wrecks.

Entitled The Shrine, the episode follows Lorna as talks about her late husband Clifford.

It was one of two episodes in the revamped series which originally aired on the BBC in the 1980s.

Monica Dolan takes on the role of Lorna and absolutely destroyed audiences with her powerful acting.

After her husband Clifford dies in a motorcycle accident, Lorna decides to leave flowers at the site of his death.

But she soon comes to realise she is not the only person leaving flowers at the shrine.

She meets Betsy, a fellow biker, and quickly learns "Cliff" had a different persona around his biking community.

He was a completely different person in his "leathers" and someone Lorna could not recognise.

Perhaps most shocking of all was when police told Lorna that Clifford was climaxing at the time of his accident.

Dolan gives a heart wrenching performance with fans rushing to Twitter to shower her with praise.

One Twitter user wrote: "I've just watched the Monica Dolan monologue from Talking Heads and i have chills. It was so fucking intense and she did an amazing job and i am fucking speechless. I dont know how she did that. Like… how? Wow."

While another added: "Very much enjoyed the new series of Talking Heads, strong performances but Monica Dolan stole the show in The Shrine. Can’t beat an Alan Bennet monologue."

A third said: "Monica Dolan – I just can't #TalkingHeads"
And a fourth commented: "Alan Bennett's #TalkingHeads I watched The Shrine and it really is emotionally shattering, not necessarily as dark as An Ordinary Woman but the quiet grief unfolds until the raw pain is etched on Monica Dolan's face. Awards for everybody involved."

Other famous actors to star in the 2020 version of Talking Heads include, Jodie Comer, Martin Freeman, Sarah Lanchashire, Imelda Staunton, Tasmin Greig, Lesley Manville, Lucian Msamatin, Maxine Peak, Rochenda Sandall, Kristen Scott Thomas and Harriet Walter.

The series wraps up tonight on the BBC but is available to watch on BBC iPlayer
