For a group of four guys who, at the start of the series, couldn’t get any girls, they ended up doing okay for themselves. Howard Wolowitz settled down with Bernadette Rostenkowski, while Leonard Hofstadter scored the girl of his dream in Penny. Even Sheldon Cooper found his perfect match in Amy Farrah Fowler. While each couple has navigated relationship hurdles, they’ve all seemingly work. Is there one couple that makes more sense on paper than the others? Let’s find out.
Leonard Hofstadter’s dream girl is clearly Penny
Pennyis clearly Leonard’s dream come true. He was taken with her the moment helaid eyes on her. While their relationship hit a few rough patches, in the end,they seem to make things work. Rough patches were expected for the pair. Uponfirst glance, they don’t appear suited to one another. Penny’s Hollywoodambitions and midwestern senses don’t seem to jive well with Leonard’sincredibly intellectual world.
The pairing works on one level, though; both Leonard and Pennyrequire something from each other. Penny requires the security that Leonard provides,while he needs someone a little bit aloof and hard to handle. The bubbly Pennyfans meet in the first season doesn’t seem to fit the bill, but her sarcasticnature is revealed over time, and as the seasons wear on she seems to fit intoLeonard’s codependent nature just a little too well. Thatdoesn’t mean they are a great couple, though, even though fans haveconsistently considered them their favorite romantic pairing.
Howard Wolowitz found love with spunky Bernadette
Howard and Bernadette’s love story is a bit unconventional. While they both work in science fields, it’s well-known that Bernadette is the more successful of the pair. CBR suggests that while Bernadette isn’t really likeably on her own, she’s a good fit for Howard, and has seemingly figured out a way to tone down his more creepy personality traits.
There is one big problem, though; Bernadette is infuriated by Howard’s childish ways. In fact, the couple is kind of reminiscent of Debra and Raymond Barone in Everybody Loves Raymond. Their relationship doesn’t seem nearly as mutually beneficial as Penny and Leonard’s, and frankly, sometimes, the pair just seem resigned to one another, rather than in love. They likely won’t leave each other, but a deep burning passion for the rest of their lives doesn’t seem probable either.
Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler make a unique pair
Sheldon wasn’t looking for love. In fact, it appears asthough the genius scientist doesn’t really understand the point of romantic entanglements.When Raj and Howard decide to take matters into their own hands to help Sheldonmeet his match, he’s reluctant. In the name of science, he manages to find AmyFarrah Fowler. Who knew online dating could produce an absolutely perfectmatch.
Sure, Sheldon and Amy don’t have a love found in bodice-ripping romance novels. They may not be desperate to pounce on each other at any moment, but overall they are ideally suited to one another. According to Metro, the couple actually has the best chance of making it long-term. They communicate well, and while Sheldon struggles with understanding the emotions of others, the two understand each other. Two pragmatic souls might not offer each other the steamy love we expect with a perfect couple, but their practical natures make them an ideal pair.
Who is the best couple on The Big Bang Theory?
On paper, it would seem like Amy and Sheldon have the best chance of making their relationship work. Perhaps, that is because the pair don’t approach romantic love the way the rest of society does. There is no magnetic draw, which means there are no significant power struggles and no emotional blowups. At the same time, there are no intense makeups, either. The couple floats along together on a calm stream and has taken their relationship slow, save for a few hiccups here and there. Sure, it might not be the right relationship for most people, but it’s the right one for these two.
Penny and Leonard, while fan-favorites are the couple who are least likely to make it work. The pair appear to constantly struggle to understand each other, and once married, it becomes clear that they don’t actually talk about much of anything. At the very least, they don’t talk about the things that one would expect a couple to discuss before they enter into a marriage. Penny and Leonard are definitely the most likely pairing to end up in divorce court eventually.
