Fans eagerly await the next season of The Crown, especially since the announcement that Season 5 will be its last. And speculation is mounting that Grace Kelly might feature as a character in Season 4.
One eagle-eyed fan, Julie Wharton, shared a photo from inside Winchester Cathedral in the south of England, which will double as Westminster Abbey in the new season of The Crown. Members of the cast were photographed outside the cathedral, as it was prepared for Lord Mountbatten’s funeral, which took place on September 5, 1979.
Wharton wrote on Instagram, “A quick trip to the Cathedral and a spot of time travel. Stumbled upon the set of The Crown Season 4. Tomorrow it will be transformed into St Paul’s for Diana’s wedding prep.” The location doubles for two very different venues, and two completely different occasions.
Lord Mountbatten was tragically assassinated by IRA terrorists in August 1979 while he was on a fishing trip in Ireland. Lord Mountbatten’s funeral is particularly significant as it attracted royals from all over the world, including Grace Kelly.
The former American actress was photographed at the royal funeral alongside her husband, Rainier III, Prince of Monaco. And as noted by Town & Country, the couple stood with Prince Albert of Belgium to pay their respects.
It’s not yet known if Princess Grace will make an appearance in Season 4 of The Crown, but Town & Country did share a photo of an actor dressed up as Prince Albert of Belgium shooting a funeral scene. It’s extremely possible that the Netflix show’s fourth season will re-create Princess Grace’s connection with the British royals. She was also photographed with Prince Charles and Princess Diana in 1981.
