THE Secrets She Keeps’ Laura Carmichael has revealed why she was desperate to play a psychopath after Downton Abbey.
The 33-year-old actress played Lady Edith Crawley in the hit ITV period drama, but her latest role in the BBC drama couldn't be more different.
Laura plays Aggie, who stalks a woman called Meghan (Jessica de Gouw) after briefly meeting in Aggie's place of work.
Appearing on Tuesday's This Morning, Laura told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: "It’s funny because at the beginning of last year we started having those conversations about 'what would you really like to do now?'
"And I said 'I’d quite like to play a crazy lady that would be fun. And by the time I landed in London I had the script in my inbox, it was amazing."
When Holly referred to her lavish Downton Abbey costumes compared to Aggie's dressed down appearance, Laura said: "I always said after Downton I had ambitions of acting in jeans, just to wear normal clothes and come to work and throw it on.
"We wanted to build this world around Agatha that you see that she’s not taking care of herself, her apartment is disgusting."
Meanwhile The Secrets She Keeps viewers are convinced they have already solved the 'predictable' baby kidnapping plot.
Vlogger Meghan is pregnant and Aggie, a hugely keen follower of her channel, has since been exposed as pretending to be expecting.
Yet fans believe the plotline through the six BBC episodes will take a much darker turn, with Aggie having her sights set on Meghan's real-life tot.
One fan mused on Twitter: "Predicted what happened at end of 1st episode I sense a kidnap story #TheSecretsSheKeeps."
Another posted: "Agatha's a fruit loop I think she's going to try and kidnap Megan's baby #TheSecretsSheKeeps."
A fellow viewer added: "Jack's into some dodgy stuff because of the money troubles and Agatha is not really pregnant and is going to steal the baby. Wouldn't be surprised if a pet gets offed as well at some point."
The Secrets She Keeps continues on Monday, July 13 at 9pm on BBC One.
