Ana de Armas is taking Hollywood by storm. Not only has she landed lead roles in several upcoming films, but the beautiful Cuban actress has been spotted with Ben Affleck. In fact, these two are showing every sign of embarking on a new romance. Good for them!
It makes sense that Ana and Ben are supposedly getting close, since they play a married couple in Deep Water, an upcoming “psychological thriller” directed by Adrian Lyne and due out in the fall,” according to E! News. Their on-camera relationship may have trickled into their private lives because the co-stars were spotted in her hometown of Havana, Cuba, where they took in the sights, with Ana acting as a guide. Later, they reportedly jetted to Costa Rica for a vacation.
Eyewitnesses and photographers have spotted the couple smiling and laughing together. A source told E! News, “They have been kissing, cuddling up together and putting their arms around each other a lot. They look at each other adoringly and like taking pictures of each other. Ben seems blissfully happy and giddy. He can’t stop smiling and laughing.” Affleck is allegedly “very into Ana.”
It’s clear that things are moving in a positive direction, so while we celebrate this new relationship, let’s take a step back and learn everything there is to know about Ana de Armas.
Ana de Armas almost turned down Knives Out
Ana de Armas got her start in 2007 in a Spanish drama series called El Internado, People reports. She moved to Los Angeles in 2014 and was cast in Hands of Stone as well as Todd Phillips’ War Dogs, where she played Miles Teller’s girlfriend. She played an android named Joi in 2017’s Bladerunner 2049 and landed a gig in 2019’s Knives Out.
It was arguably Knives Out, directed by Rian Johnson, that pushed Ana into mainstream consciousness. She plays Marta Cabrera, a Latina immigrant who looks after Christopher Plummer’s character, Harlan Thrombey. Interestingly, Ana almost didn’t take the role because, according to the Los Angeles Times, she saw a description in the audition scene that read: “Caretaker, Latina, pretty.” The reductionist description of her character made Ana upset. “I’ve seen that before,” she told the L.A. Times. “‘Latina,’ I have no problem with, because I’m Cuban and very proud to be Cuban,” she told the L.A. Times. “But that [description] didn’t say anything to me. There’s no information at all about her character.”
Fortunately, Ana demanded a thorough reading of the script and realized that Marta is anything but a stock character, so she accepted the role and knocked it out of the park, showing off her acting chops alongside heavyweights Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, and Daniel Craig.
Ana de Armas will work with Daniel Craig again
Deep Water, starring Ana de Armas and co-star-turned-something-more Ben Affleck, hits theaters in November 2020, but she already has another big movie on the horizon: No Time To Die. De Armas will act alongside Daniel Craig once again in the upcoming (and highly anticipated) James Bond film. According to the official James Bond website, No Time To Die will be the fifth and last time Daniel Craig plays the MI6 agent. De Armas plays a CIA agent named Paloma.
No Time To Die is due out in November 2020 but was initially supposed to hit U.S. theaters on April 10, 2020. The film’s release date has been postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak, according to Variety. The stakes are high for this Bond film, particularly since it cost more than $200 million to make and millions more to advertise. As theaters around the world close to fight the pandemic, delaying the premiere is absolutely necessary.
Ana de Armas thinks Ben Affleck's 'talent is infinite'
Budding romance chatter aside, Ana de Armas thinks highly of Ben Affleck as an actor. According to People, the Cuban actress spoke highly of her Deep Water co-star.
“The first time we read the scenes together, it became pretty clear he was going to do something exceptional with a very complex role,” she said. “His character is the engine of the story and requires him to move between tragedy and irony or between realism and the most absurd comedy.” She added, “Not only does he know how to do it with ease, he also manages to surprise you in every shot. His talent is infinite.” Wow! That is some high praise!
We have no doubt that De Armas will continue to climb the Hollywood ladder and become a beloved fixture of contemporary cinema, and we are so happy that she’s found companionship along the way! Considering Affleck’s tragic role as Batman and his divorce from Jennifer Garner made headlines for all the wrong reasons, it’s nice to see the actor back in the spotlight for positive reasons.
