Meghan McCain continues to make headlines on The View as politics increasingly become more polarizing. With the impending presidential elections coming up in 2020, the “Hot Topics” table has sizzled like never before. After storming off the ABC News show set following a heated debate, people called for her firing, which is something the political pundit constantly fears.
Why does Meghan McCain think she may get fired?
McCain is the conservative co-host on the daytime talk show. It’s not an easy job to defend her position when you have powerful women like Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar debating with her. Nonetheless, McCain rises up to the occasion to counter their opinions which have made for great television debates.
Due to McCain’s passion for politics and her convictions, she constantly fears being fired from The View.
“I go in assuming I’m going to be fired every day,” McCain said during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live. “Every single day. Yes, every day.”
When Bravo host Andy Cohen asked if she had ever been closed to getting the boot off of the show created by Barbara Walters, she said no.
“It’s more the tone we are [at] culturally, people get canceled so easily,” she explained. “And by the way, Joy has this same thing, because we are the most honest and raw. And we’re always going to say something that is going to be too far one way. So I say it sort of jokingly, but sort of not.”
Meghan McCain and Ana Navarro spar
McCain and Ana Navarro got into a feud on-air when the former cut off the latter in an aggressive manner.
“You know, I’m two feet away. Don’t need you to scream at me this way,” Navarro replied.
McCain then answered in a dismissive way saying, “I don’t know what you just said.”
“I said don’t scream at me, I’m two feet away,” Navarro repeated visibly annoyed at McCain.
McCain was left shocked and said, “You know what, that’s so rude Ana, welcome back.”
Behar sent to commercial break and the cameras were able to catch McCain walking off the set.
‘The View’ co-host explains why she left the set
After multiple media outlets picked up the heated moment, McCain said she was left confused as to why it was such a big deal. During her guest appearance on WWHL she downplayed the moment saying she’s done it numerous times before.
“I just want to say the walking off footage, we are told by producers to leave the table if it’s too heated and I get touched up backstage with my makeup so that’s what I was doing and I’ve done that like many times over the years so I don’t know why this particular time…,” she explained.
McCain also revealed that the audience heckles her and that’s why she often fires back at them.
“I will say the audience is extremely combative and it’s nice to be with a positive audience,” she expressed. “The booing and the heckling is a lot every day. And I’m paid here at The View to be a different view and I would like us all when people come to roll it back cause again, I’m just trying to do a very competent job.”
Although many have called for McCain’s firing from the show, her voice is necessary at the table as it gives a complete picture of opinions. As a conservative Republican, McCain fulfills her duties to the best of her ability giving insight into her viewpoint. The ratings for the show are strong and will continue to grow as the presidential election season heats up.
