The Walking Dead season 10: Showrunner teases ‘tearjerkers’ in bombshell first episode

Speaking on the read Carpet of The Walking Dead’s season 10 Premiere, showrunner Angela Kang shared some show secrets about what fans can expect from the first episode of the AMC hit. The showrunner revealed the show will have it’s usual scares, but with a twist.

The Walking Dead has always been know for it’s gruesome horror and bloody deaths of fan-favourites.

However, it seems the next outing will go far deeper into the characters lives and reveal some hard truths.

With the tenth season marking a huge milestone for the franchise, the latest outing will see how the characters deal with life so deep into the apocalypse.

Speaking at the event, Angela Kang revealed the next outing will be unlike any other.

The showrunner began: “It’s The Walking Dead so there’s obviously going to be good scares.

“There is stuff that’s a tearjerker, beautiful character stories, but we’re really trying to find new things to explore, so in the first episode you see that there’s really some stuff that we’ve never done before on the show, we’re still looking for those things.”

With the showrunner teasing “beautiful character stories” it’s possible the show will delve more into the backstories of the characters.

The tenth outing is set to take place not long after season nine ended.

However, there could be some visions and flashbacks that reveal more about the fan-favourites than ever before.

Moreover, the showrunner revealed what the milestone episode could bring with the characters being so deep into the apocalypse.

Angela continued: “We’re dealing with the fact that we’re so many years into the apocalypse now that there continues to be things that evolve,

“the way they fight has evolved, the way they continue to deal with this other group has evolved,”

The group has long been known for their skills in defeating the Walkers, but it seems surprises are ahead as the groups come together and change things up to wage war on the Whisperers.

Intense battle scenes are sure to follow as the showrunner concluded by teasing and “exciting” war against the Whisperers.

Angela concluded: “and we get to have this Whisperer war with Alpha and Beta at the helm of this very, very strange group and I’m excited for people to get to see that.”

Meanwhile, executive producer Denise Huth teased Michonne’s final scenes.

Speaking to Radio Times, the producer explained: “It is tricky. It’s a very difficult thing to do.”

“I think it’s going to be great – I think it will ultimately be very satisfying and also raise a whole bunch of other questions… y’know.

“For the show to be here 10 years in is incredible all by itself.

“When we started in season one, absolutely none of us thought we’d be here 10 years later! It’s so uncommon and we’re so grateful that we still get to tell this story.”

The Walking Dead season 10 premieres on AMC on October 6 and on Fox UK on October 7.
