There is really no point in trying to form an opinion on American Horror Story by the second episode. It is truly just a waste of time. If you’ve been watching AHS for years, you fully understand that Ryan Murphy loves to throw as many curveballs as possible, and seasons tend to change drastically with each passing plot twist. Like, Apocalypse fully felt like a million different shows, and it’s possible that 1984 will be the same.
Fans are already theorizing what the rest of season nine will look like, and after scrolling through Reddit, I’m pretty much convinced that they’re right. Basically, they think that 1984 will pull a Roanoke, but instead of the series revolving around the filming of a television show…it will be about a movie.
y’all i’ve read so many ahs theories and now i actually believe the first five episodes is the movie and the rest of the season is the characters filming the movie and being famous actors and a serial killer is after them. because the actors irl are filming in LA. #AHS1984
This honestly checks TF out. Since the original teaser dropped, we’ve known that 1984 is an homage to the slasher films of the ’80s. It would make a lot of sense for this season to be about a movie cast and crew. Here are a few reasons why.
1. So far, it’s super campy.
Yes, American Horror Story has been campy before…but 1984 is teetering on a level of cheesiness that feels strategic. A few Reddit users have pointed out that some of the goriest moments look extremely fake, which is strange for a show that is usually convincingly scary.
“I think that may have been intentional, since a lot of people are speculating that Camp Redwood is just a ‘show within a show,’ sort of like Roanoke,” wrote one user.
2. Richard Ramirez is a little too perfect looking.
If you know the real story of the Night Stalker, you’re probably familiar with the fact that the real Richard Ramirez is known for his imperfect teeth.
“He’s too perfect, he’s too good looking,” explained a viewer. “Why wouldn’t AHS cast a better fit? Or at least give the actor prosthetics. If this was a Hollywood movie, it would make sense for a studio to cast someone traditionally good looking in a role.”
My only issue with the #AHS1984 premiere is how perfect Richard Ramirez’s teeth were #murderino pic.twitter.com/PZz7XGxPL9
I mean, that’s an extremely solid point.
3. There was a sneaky callback to Roanoke.
The second episode of 1984 has a scene where Blake says “gay for pay” in the back of a car. This is EXACTLY like a scene from Roanoke. Is this the perfect combination of a throwback and foreshadowing? Sounds like it.

4. The opening credits are literally on a television.
Hi, this point isn’t from Reddit. I just took it from my own brain. You’re welcome. Have you noticed that the opening credits (which are SO good this season) look like they’re playing from a vintage television with blood dripping down the screen? It’s so meta! Almost…too meta.
5. Brooke might be played by Madison Montgomery.
Okay, this theory doesn’t really have any legs. It’s really more of an amazing suggestion. Remember Madison Montgomery? The wild actress Emma Roberts plays in Coven and Apocalypse? Well, if 1984 IS really a show about a movie…Brooke would be the perfect role for her!
