Production of the final season of History series Vikings, also available on Amazon Prime Video, was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic. The historical epic is still expected to return to screens later this year, while a former member of the main cast has dished some surprising behind-the-scenes knowledge from her time on the show.

Alongside prestige hits like Game of Thrones and The Witcher, Vikings is not only infamous for its brutal depictions of historical battles, but also some of the steamiest love scenes on TV.
Unfortunately, fans missed out on seeing former lead Ragnar Lothbrok (played by Travis Fimmel) consummate his tension-laden relationship with seductive Queen Kwenthrith (Amy Bailey).
Before being mercilessly killed off by Judith (Jennie Jacques) in season four, Kwenthrith tried to cause trouble by seducing the Viking warrior during his journey to Wessex in season three.
Their relationship later caused more trouble for Kattegat with a shocking revelation from Kwenthrith’s son, Magnus (Dean Ridge).

Near the beginning of season five, Magnus returns to Wessex to claim Ragnar is actually his father, though this was later proven to be false.
However, despite being killed by White Hair (Kieran O’Reilly) later in the season, rumours and theories about Magnus’ parentage still circulate around the Viking fan community, as his real father is still unknown.
During a recent interview on YouTube channel Beauty Is Eternal, Kwenthrith star Amy Bailey revealed how she and co-star Travis were instrumental in keeping the mystery alive.
The former Vikings star confirmed a sex scene between Ragnar and Kwenthrith had been filmed, but the stars convinced the production crew to cut the scene.
Amy said: “There was a sex scene, but Travis and I, we kind of talked them into cutting that out.
“We thought it would be more interesting because people don’t know if Magnus is his or not.”
Despite many Vikings fans assuming Ragnar and Kwenthrith were lovers, the pair never actually sealed the deal on-screen.
By removing any sex scenes between the two, the mystery surrounding Ragnar and Magnus was able to continue, as fans weren’t given definitive proof the Viking ruler ever slept with the Queen of Mercia.

Moreover, the conspicuous absence of any physical love scenes ensured their relationship remained subtextual and even more exciting for Vikings fans.
Amy continued: “I mean, I know the answer, but it’s like is he or isn’t he, which is an interesting thing.
“Originally we had all these sex scenes and we were like let’s make it more mysterious and a more interesting relationship.”
Magnus was reintroduced as a fearsome new rival and potential half-brother for current King of Kattegat, Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig).

Sadly, his time on the series was cut short after participating in the Siege of Kattegat in season five, and the mystery of Magnus’ true father has still not been solved.
With ten more episodes of the show left to come, there is still hope screenwriter Michael Hirst will be able connect the remaining dots before Vikings’ highly anticipated finale.
No release date has been confirmed by the History Channel, but fans are anticipating the series to follow previous trends and return in November 2020, pending the coronavirus situation.
Vikings seasons 1-6 are available on Amazon Prime Video.
