Watch the trailer for Yellowstone Season 5
On top of all the drama the Yellowstone series has endured within the last year or so, things are about the get worse.
There’s some serious competition coming from Netflix, who are adapting their own Western drama.
The streaming service has announced it is developing a series titled Ransom Canyon – which appears to be a cross between Kevin Costner’s hit show, the Godfather, and Virgin River.
Netflix described the show as “charting the intersecting lives of three ranching families, all set against the rugged expanse of Texas Hill Country.”
The upcoming series will be based on the contemporary romance book series, Jodi Thomas’ Ransom Canyon.

Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly are set to star and there are 10 episodes planned for its first season.
The new series is also being compared to another popular romance show based on a series of books, Virgin River, which is also on Netflix.
“It’s a multi-generational family show set on a ranch, and we say it’s Virgin River meets Yellowstone,” Jinny Howe, Netflix’s Head of Drama, Development, told Deadline in August 2022.
Howe added: “It’s a contemporary Western romance show, just looking for more in this comfort romance space.
“We think that it’s going to deliver on all the romance and again it will be a really beautiful vista and setting, very escapist.”
Duhamel’s character, the “steadfast and stoic” Staten Kirkland, owns and operates the Double K Ranch and strives to protect it from outside forces attempting to destroy his way of life.

The announcement of Netflix’s new Western drama comes as Yellowstone seen tons of drama.
Taylor Sheridan’s series emerged as Paramount Network’s top-performing series, attracting a whopping 7 million live viewers per episode during the first part of Season 5.
Its success has sparked the development of several spinoffs, including the newest, 1944.
Since Taylor Sheridan and Paramount+ seem unwilling to stop the franchise, even as its leading man Costner departs, it’s uncertain whether Ransom Canyon will be able to match Yellowstone’s success.
