A Place In The Sun star Laura Hamilton, 39, has recounted being subjected to bullying, as she addressed her childhood. The presenter now enjoys a successful professional and personal life, but she confessed her past experiences had left her experiencing suicidal thoughts.

Speaking on the Things I Told My Daughter podcast, Laura candidly opened up about her mental health.

She said: “I remember being really sad, really really sad.

“I remember saying, ‘I don’t want to live anymore’, which is horrible.

“I can’t remember it very much, but I just know it was c**p. It was a horrible time.

“I remember getting called into the office at school and them saying if I didn’t want to come in, I could do it at home.

“It was a tough school to go to – there were only about four people in the whole year that actually wanted to work.

“It’s crazy. I don’t think I’ve ever spoken about that.”

Laura admitted that the conversation felt “like I’m baring my soul”.

Laura’s mum, Lynn, 67, offered her perspective of her daughter’s experience to host Peta Todd.

She recounted: “We did have a little stage of bullying at school, because Laura always strived to be the best of everything and she usually was the best of everything. She always got top of the class.

“One particular time, she got top of the class again and the teacher called us in and said, ‘I’m really sorry, I’m not going to be able to put Laura at the top of the class because she’s been top of the class for the last however many weeks’.

“She got a bit of bullying because she always used to get the lead role in the school play.”

On World Mental Health Day, Laura took to Instagram to share a quote about supporting those who are down.

The message sparked concerns from some of her fans, who quickly checked in on her.

In view of her 137,000 followers, Laura explained on her Story: “I just wanted to come on here and post this story this morning because I had a few people contact me yesterday saying, ‘Laura is everything OK?’

“It was World Mental Health Day yesterday and like lots of us on social media, I choose to post a lot of the glamorous things in my life.

“Whether I’m travelling abroad to sunny destinations or I’m glammed up for an event, obviously on my social media, I post that.”

She continued: “I don’t often post when there’s c**p going on in my life or I’m busy running a business.

“[Or] I’m running around after children, which I was doing a lot this weekend, but that isn’t to say that there isn’t stuff going on in my life.

“Sometimes I choose not to talk about it to protect the people around me and out of respect.”
