Bloopers that make us love The Bachelor even more

You don’t have to be a diehard fan of The Bachelor to know the series has had its fair share of gigantic goof-ups. Usually, these moments play out onscreen for all to see. Who can forget the time Jason Mesnick went from beloved Bachelor to the “most hated man in America” in the blink of an eye when he dumped Melissa Rycroft on national television for a second chance with his runner-up, Molly Malaney? Arie Luyendyk Jr. famously took a leaf from Mesnick’s book in 2018, when the race car driver brutally dumped a blindsided Becca Kufrin for his runner-up, Lauren Burnham. And, of course, Colton Underwood’s infamous fence jump will perhaps go down in Bachelor history as the series’ most anticipated (and overly hyped) moment ever.

However, while they may not make national headlines, there are just as many slip-ups, uh-ohs, and whoopsie-daisies happening behind the scenes of The Bachelor. Whether it’s falling equipment, a case of mistaken identity, culinary craziness, rude pedestrians, or an incredibly judgmental monkey — The Bachelor has seen it all. Here’s a look at some of our all-time favorite Bachelor bloopers.

"I would not put your mouth on that dog" producers told this pup-loving Bachelor

It’s no secret that Colton Underwood is a total dog person. He has two rather Insta-famous pups of his own — Sniper, a black lab who fans saw join in on Underwood’s Denver date with Tayshia Adams, and Thor, a German Shepherd TMZ reports was rescued from being sold to “the meat markets of Asia.” And though he’s no longer the Bachelor, the reality star continues to make headlines for helping rescue pups. The dude loves dogs — which is why it should come as no surprise that some of his most memorable bloopers are canine-centric.

In one clip from Season 23’s blooper reel, Underwood is distracted from an interview by a stray pup who wanders into frame. The Bachelor breaks into a grin the moment he sees the dog, and as he crouches down, the pup immediately starts licking his face. “I would not put your mouth on that dog,” an offscreen producer advises. “Too late,” Underwood responds.

In another clip, contestant Catherine Argo’s dog, Lucy, growls as Underwood inches his face closer to hers — though she eventually decides to lick his nose instead of biting it.

Hannah "Bug Slayer" Beast's Bachelor bloopers will make you squirm

Fans first met Bachelorette Hannah Brown when she appeared as a contestant on Colton Underwood’s Bachelor season. For most of her time on the show, the former beauty queen was plagued by drama surrounding her relationship with ex-friend and pageant competitor, Caelynn Miller-Keyes. Eventually, the back-and-forth with Keyes resulted in Brown letting out what she described as “the beautiful monster” inside of her with the roar heard ’round the world — and just like that, Hannah Beast was born.

As Underwood’s season progressed, Brown continued to live up to her beastly nickname by fearlessly eating a fish eye, letting a leech hang out on her stomach, and nearly taking out a poor cameraman while showing off her martial arts prowess. While the 23rd Bachelor season’s blooper reel shows Underwood and his contestants freaking out over insects, bats, crabs, and other creepy-crawlers, this clip is proof that the Beast isn’t bothered by bugs. As some sort of flying insect buzzes its way into Brown’s interview, she immediately claps her hands together, killing it mid-air. Proudly smiling at the camera, Brown asks, “Did you see that?” Oh, we saw it, alright.

Stinky Bachelor bloopers reveal that these ladies don't hold back (their farts)

During a 2017 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Nick Viall — who served as leading man for the 21st season of The Bachelor — played a rather revealing round of Never Have I Ever. When the talk show host asked the former Bachelor if he’d ever “farted in front of a contestant while on camera,” Viall was quick to own up to his flatulence. His honesty was refreshing, because — let’s be real, here — everyone does it. And if the blooper reel from Viall’s season of The Bachelor is any indication, the women competing for his heart were especially gassy.

In one hilarious Bachelor outtake shown on the blooper reel, Corinne Olympios lets one slip while chatting with Rachel Lindsay, and both ladies immediately bust into laughter. Giggling and fanning her face, Olympios exclaims, “It’s so bad!”

Another clip shows Olympios scrunching her nose at a rose ceremony, surrounded by her fellow contestants. “Ew, someone farted,” she says, as the other women look around for the culprit. Eventually, contestant Taylor Nolan owns up to the mysterious toot. Reality stars — they’re just like us!

In not one, but two bloopers, Bachelor Sean struggles to open up… the wine

Sean Lowe’s season of The Bachelor is still widely considered by Bachelor Nation to be one of the best and most successful installments of the series. Lowe’s season ended with the Bachelor getting down on one knee and proposing to Catherine Giudice — and, as of this writing, the Lowes have two children together with another on the way.

However, while Lowe might be one of Bachelor Nation’s greatest success stories, there’s one thing with which the Bachelor didn’t have much luck — opening a bottle of champagne. In one of our favorite Bachelor bloopers, Lowe struggles while twisting the cork out of a champagne bottle, only to startle both himself and contestant Lindsay Yenter when the cork suddenly pops out and flies across the room.

In another blooper, Lowe is seen struggling once again, this time with a bottle of white wine. “How many people does it take to open a bottle of wine?” the Bachelor jokes, as contestant Ashlee Frazier finally takes it from him and finishes the job.

Remember when Chris Harrison asked this Bachelor: "Why are there panties on the table?"

Chris Soules’ season ended with the Bachelor proposing to contestant Whitney Bischoff, who happily accepted. However, the couple’s relationship crumbled soon after the season finale, and Soules’ luck seemed to only go downhill from there. In 2017, Soules was arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal accident that caused the death of his neighbor. Two years later, the wrongful death lawsuit was settled with a 2.5 million dollar settlement paid by Soules to the victim’s estate.

However, one of our favorite Bachelor bloopers shows Soules in a happier time — the very first night of his run as Bachelor. While Chris Harrison listens to Soules reminisce about his “tough, long” first night as a contestant on Andi Dorfman’s season of The Bachelorette, the Bachelor host suddenly notices something red on a table next to him — and no, it’s not a rose.

“Why are there panties on the table?” Harrison asks, holding up the bright red undies. Laughing, Soules replies, “I wear those when I’m lonely.”

Corinne vs. Demi's hilarious food-related Bachelor bloopers

As longtime viewers of The Bachelor have likely noticed by now, neither the contestants nor the lead are often seen eating while on-camera. It’s a shame, of course, because the dinners on those one-on-one dates look incredibly appetizing — but, there’s a reason for the rule. Former contestant Jaclyn Swartz revealed to Refinery 29, “No one wants to watch people stuffing their face on a date. If you’re eating, you aren’t talking,” She continued, “Instead, we eat before the dates, as we are getting ready. The producers will bring room service to your room, or a plate of food to where you’re getting ready in the house.”

However, a few bold contestants have given fans a behind-the-scenes look at what eating on the show is actually like — namely Corinne Olympios and Demi Burnett, who competed on Nick Viall and Colton Underwood’s Bachelor seasons, respectively. In two funny outtakes from the show, both Olympios and Burnett can be seen showing off the amount of food they can fit inside their mouths. Olympios’ preferred snack is cheese cubes, while Burnett opts for a stack of salami. Color us impressed (and hungry)!

This monkey didn't seem to approve of Kaitlyn Bristowe

Kaitlyn Bristowe was first introduced to Bachelor Nation as a contestant competing for Chris Soules’ heart on The Bachelor‘s 19th season, totally winning over both Soules and fans on night one with her pickup line for the farmer: “You can plow the f— out of my field any day!”

While Soules definitely appreciated Bristowe’s sense of humor, we have a feeling this monkey wasn’t a fan. In one of the funniest outtakes from Soules’ season, Bristowe and the Bachelor are interrupted by a curious primate while having a private conversation during their one-on-one date in Bali. The monkey makes his way behind the couple as they sit on a ledge, planting himself firmly beside Bristowe as if he thought she’d been saving the spot just for him. However, the adorable moment quickly becomes somewhat alarming when Mr. Monkey starts making a gagging noise in Bristowe and Soules’ direction. Considering the Bachelor eliminated Bristowe at the next rose ceremony, it’s safe to say a monkey gagging during your date is probably not a great sign.

This Bachelor contestant demonstrated catlike reflexes in this blooper

Hannah Brown, the Bachelorette who gave a whole new meaning to windmills, might be the most well-known Hannah to come from Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor — however, she wasn’t the only Hannah. Hannah Godwin — better known to Bachelor Nation as Hannah G. — was also a fan-favorite on Underwood’s Bachelor season, and remained in the running for the former football pro’s heart until she was blindsided by the Bachelor breaking up with her so that he could pursue contestant Cassie Randolph.

Luckily for Godwin, her kind demeanor and drama-free personality made her a winner in the eyes of Bachelor fans, and many demanded that she be given another chance to look for love on the popular Bachelor spinoff, Bachelor in Paradise. Producers listened, and Godwin was cast for the tropical-themed dating show’s sixth season, which premiered in August 2019. Here’s hoping we’ll see even more Godwin bloopers like this one, in which the popular contestant shows off her catlike reflexes by swiftly catching a falling piece of production equipment while giving a one-on-one interview. Apparently, the ‘G’ in Godwin stands for “good catch!”

This might be the most awkward Bachelor blooper of all time

As much fun as The Bachelor is to watch, just thinking about how it must feel to juggle over 20 love interests at one time is stressful enough to make us want to hide under a blanket and never come out again. After all, how would you even remember each person’s name? Well, if you’re Jesse Palmer, the answer is simple — you wouldn’t.

During a memorable rose ceremony from The Bachelor’s fifth season, Palmer nervously holds the final rose of the evening and calls out the name of the woman with whom he wants to continue a relationship, “Katie.” Of course, a delighted Katie steps forward to accept his rose, and Palmer realizes his mistake — he called the wrong name. After a brief conversation with Chris Harrison, the Bachelor was granted an extra rose to give to Karen, the intended recipient. In a bold move, Palmer even admitted his mistake to the remaining women — Katie included. We’re not quite sure a more awkward moment will ever occur in the Bachelor‘s time on-air.

Apparently this Bachelor contestant is "not funny!"

Before Rachel Lindsay made history as the Bachelor franchise’s first black Bachelorette, she was a contestant on Nick Viall’s season of The Bachelor. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Lindsay quickly became a fan-favorite contestant for her no-nonsense attitude, intelligence, and sense of humor. However, as this blooper from The Bachelor‘s 21st season reveals, not everyone thought Lindsay was funny.

In one hilarious outtake, Lindsay struggles to deliver a one-on-one interview due to several interruptions from passers-by on the streets of New Orleans. First, a train blares its horn as the contestant gushes about the city’s culture. Lindsay laughs it off and starts over, this time talking about the new experiences she’s having in New Orleans, only to be cut-off by a woman singing and ringing her bicycle bell as she casually rides through the shot. In her final attempt, Lindsay tries to discuss her sense of humor, telling the camera, “I like to think of myself as kind of funny…” However, before she can finish her thought, a pedestrian yells out, “You’re not funny!” Lindsay, always a good sport, collapses into a fit of giggles — and we can’t help but do the same.

Chris Harrison teaches Jimmy Kimmel the Bachelor ropes… and gets a handsy blooper

Aside from The Bachelor and Jimmy Kimmel Live being on the same network, the late night talk show host and his wife, Molly McNeary, have a tradition of predicting each season’s outcome — and they’re almost always correct. According to E! News, in the time they’ve been predicting winners, Kimmel and McNeary have only fallen short a few times. The host and his writer wife chose incorrectly for Rachel Lindsay, Desiree Hartsock, and Ben Higgins’ respective seasons.

Eerily accurate predictions aside, one of our favorite Bachelor/Kimmel bloopers happened during Chris Soules’ Bachelor season, when host Chris Harrison tried — and failed — to teach Kimmel the ropes of rose ceremony announcing. After mastering the art of Harrison’s signature hand gestures, Kimmel seems to finally have the hang of things. “Ladies, Chris, this is the final rose tonight,” the late night host says, before sneakily placing his hand firmly on Harrison’s rear end. “Don’t grab his a–,” Harrison says, to which Kimmel responds, “It’s okay if I do it to you?” Without blinking an eye, Harrison responds, “Well, yeah.” Talk about the host with the most!

In a case of classic hilarity, this Bachelor contestant sits in chocolate on a date

It’s impossible to say what makes The Bachelor so addictively entertaining. Some folks watch for the made-for-TV drama, some watch for the windmills and fence jumps, and a select few watch to see a genuine love story unfold on their television screens. Regardless of your reason why, you have to admit that there’s something appealing about watching single, good looking people try and score a life partner (or millions of Instagram followers) on national television. And, of course, getting to see the little moments that prove these reality stars are simply human beings like the rest of us is just the cherry on top of the reality TV sundae.

In one of the most endearing bloopers from the Bachelor franchise, Tayshia Adams, a contestant on Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor, realizes she has chocolate all over the butt of her jeans while on a one-on-one date with Underwood in his hometown of Denver. Luckily, she’s able to laugh it off — and Underwood proves he’s total fiancé material by immediately stepping into action and trying his best to wipe it off. Even the random passers-by got a kick out of the chocolatey ordeal!

So, this blooper totally explains why Bachelors and Bachelorettes aren't supposed to eat on camera

As mentioned earlier, eating while on Bachelor dates is a big no-no. As Sean Lowe explained in his book, For the Right Reasons (via Bustle), the beautiful dinners fan see during the nighttime portions of one-on-one dates are nothing more than an aesthetic choice. “We ate in our rooms and then went out for dinner, where we would be given beautiful food arranged nicely on the plate,” Lowe wrote. He continued, “This was just for show. No one looks good eating, and microphones pick up all kinds of chomping.”

After seeing this blooper from Jake Pavelka’s season of The Bachelor, we’re inclined to agree that eating into a microphone is probably not the best idea. In the outtake, Pavelka and Vienna Girardi are enjoying a cozy one-on-one date, eating what appears to be sushi, and discussing what they’re looking for in a future spouse. However, neither the Bachelor nor Girardi can make sense of what the other is saying, as their mouths are too full of food. Cue infectious giggling — as well as a piece of sushi falling from Girardi’s mouth. Hey, we’ve all been there!
