Britney Spears Will Speak Directly About Her Conservatorship For the First Time

For the first time, Britney Spears will directly address her conservatorship after requesting a hearing to speak with the judge in court. “My client has requested a hearing at which she can address the court directly,” the singer’s lawyer Samuel Ingham said in a hearing on Tuesday. “My client has asked that it be done on an expedited basis.” Judge Brenda Penny later set a date of June 23 for the requested hearing. At this time, it’s unclear exactly what topics the 39-year-old wishes to discuss.

The premiere of Framing Britney Spears back in February brought new light to the #FreeBritney movement and the singer’s case. On Feb. 11, she had her first court hearing to challenge father Jamie Spears over the control of her conservatorship. This resulted in a joint conservatorship with financial services company Bessemer Trust. A previous bid to replace Jamie was denied in August 2020 and a hearing for a new request has been postponed until July.
