Christine McGuinness is the ‘proudest mummy in the world’ after her three autistic children travelled on a plane for the first time.
So sweet!
The mum-of-three celebrated the success of her family holiday with husband Paddy, six-year-old twins Penelope and Leo, and three-year-old Felicity, telling fans it went ‘immensely well.’
She shared a sweet snap of the three of them wearing matching red outfits, the girls with bows in their hair, as they gazed out of the airport window at the planes.
‘We done it ? our first flight all together as a family and it went so well (sic),’ she wrote.
‘We are immensely proud of Leo, Penelope and Felicity. Despite all of the extra obstacles our children have to deal with, they stepped well out of their comfort zone and they done it so well. This has been 6 years in the making, planning and dreaming for a family holiday.
‘We started with a weekend in Southampton (we didn’t want to risk going abroad for the first time flying incase it went awful, we knew we could get a train home) but they done amazing, I don’t think it will be long until we have our first holiday abroad! ?☀️❤️’
She finished her post by pointing out: ‘This maybe be a ‘normal’ thing to do for most families but for ‘autism’ families like ours this is a huge achievement!’
Christine also shared a snap of her kids walking up the plane steps.
Although she explained that the trio had some hesitation getting on the flight, they enjoyed the experience once they were in their seats.
‘I wasn’t sure if my heart was going to stop with fear or burst with pride!’ she added.
Paddy, who began hosting Celebrity Juice alongside Fearne Cotton and Keith Lemon earlier this year, has previously spoken openly about the struggles of having children with autism.
Opening up about his and Christine’s parenting struggles, Paddy told The Mirror: ‘With autism you can feel as though you’re on your own, the world is against you. You’re like, “God, everyone else has got it easy”.
‘There’s lots of things we can’t do – we can’t even go on a family holiday together. But when you start speaking about it, other people get in touch and say, “I thought it was just me, I’m in that position too”.’
He admitted other non-famous parents may wonder: ‘If they’re struggling, what chance has everyone else got?’
But the TV presenter added: ‘I want to put it out there, show there is light at the end of the tunnel.’
