Chynna Rogers, Rising Rapper and Model, Dead at 25

Chynna Rogers, a young rapper and model who went professionally by her first name only, died at her home in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

She was 25 years old.

The artist’s cause of death is unknown at this time.

“Chynna was deeply loved and will be sorely missed,” said Rogers’ family in a statement to E! News, People Magazine and other outlets.

Rogers started her career as a model when she signed to Ford Models at the age of 14.

She later went on to work with the late record producer A$AP Yams and had just released released the EP If I Die First four months before her unexpected passing.

Chynna’s music career took off in 2013 after she released her hit track “Selfie” and “Glen Coco” in 2014.

The rapper proceeded to release the EPs I’m Not Here…This Isn’t Happening in 2015 …and Music 2 Die 2 in 2016.

On her 2016 album, she addressed her struggle with opioid addiction, according to Pitchfork, explaining that her music served as an escape for her and offered a way for fans to know they are not alone.

“[It’s] for angry people with too much pride to show how angry they are,” Chynna told Pitchfork, adding;

“I was able to just focus on getting my feelings out and treat music more like a journal.”

“My mom would be really tight with me if I used her as an excuse to fall off,” Chynna also told the publication. “It’s just more reason to work and get this sh-t done.”

To be clear, however, we aren’t saying that Chynna died of a drug overdose.

In the wake of this awful news, many in the music industry have reached out and expressed their sympathy, shock and sorrow.

“Chynna you were f—— hilarious bro… today was our last exchange of jokes & those I will miss the most. I can’t believe it idk how to. I love you. So very much. My heart is officially iced,” Kehlani Tweeted, for example.

Rapper Kari Faux also Tweeted this sentiment, writing:

“I love u, Chynna. Forever, my rap game Laura Croft.”

And there was this from Dom McLennon:

“Chynna deserved way more love. We need to make sure to give folks their flowers while they are here to see them. This hurts so bad cause I know she was f—— next man. Her music and vision was raw as f—.”

We send our condolences to the friends, family members and loved ones of Chynna Rogers.

May she rest in peace.
