Loose Women: Coleen Nolan discusses skin cancer scare
Coleen Nolan felt embarrassed to spread the news about her skin cancer diagnosis, as she felt her treatable condition was “nothing” compared to what another member of her family was going through.
Sister Linda Nolan, 64, was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2006, and had a double mastectomy to combat the potentially deadly disease – but she revealed earlier this year that she now has terminal brain cancer.
Addressing speaking out about her own health, 58-year-old Coleen explained it felt “a bit dramatic” and made her uncomfortable.
“I’ve got a sister whose cancer has gone to her brain, so I just felt a bit embarrassed… I was like, ‘Oh, it’s all got a bit too much.’
“Obviously it’s there and it’s always an important subject, but… it’s nothing compared to what my sister is going through.”

Coleen continued that she received more messages from the public about her skin cancer than she ever had done on any other topic, leaving her “shocked”.
She added during her interview with The Mirror that she’d even seen a funny side to the matter and “laughed” when her dermatologist first broke the news.
She’d had “the smallest piece of red stained skin” on her shoulder for a year that she’d thought little of – but she then received the news that the tiny patch was basal cell carcinoma.
“I went, ‘I thought you were going to tell me it was eczema!'” the stunned TV star exclaimed.

“Then I asked him about dry patches on my face and he said, ‘They’re melanoma,’ but the shocking and surprising thing is that it’s all from childhood,” she continued.
“If they don’t treat them then later on in life, that will become a dangerous kind of skin cancer, so I do have to get them treated.”
She added that she would go on to see a specialist who would check her entire body for any further patches.
Coleen has already had her shoulder sorted out, but says two more on her nose, which are not yet “major”, are yet to be treated.
The former singer has had a cruel history of cancer in her family, with multiple sisters affected.
Her father, Tommy Nolan Sr, died of liver cancer in 1998, while sister Bernie died 15 years after that, succumbing to breast cancer which had spread to her brain, lungs, liver and bones.
Two other Nolan sisters, Anne and Linda, also suffered breast cancer in 2000 and 2006 and while Anne made a recovery initially, it returned in 2020 at stage three level.
Just a few days after Anne’s cancer returned, Linda discovered that her own had also come back, and this time was incurable.
