Coleen Rooney set the showbiz world ablaze exactly one year ago when she typed ‘It’s……… Rebekah Vardy’s account’.
And on the anniversary of that fateful post that sparked a defamation lawsuit, the 34-year-old got her mind off things with a brunch date with her husband and son.
Coleen was pictured out and about in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, with husband of 12 years Wayne and their youngest son Cass.
The WAG was dressed casually for the outing, wearing black leggings, a pink t-shirt, trainers and a black jacket, and carried Cass’s iPad.
She held the two-year-old’s hand while Wayne, 34, held his other one, with the toddler wearing a light blue tracksuit.
Cass looked to be having a whale of a time as he swung out of his parents, while Wayne kept his head down beneath his baseball cap.
It seems the Rooneys were taking their littlest out for a stroll while their eldest boys – Kai, 10, Klay, seven, and Kit, four, were in school.
While Coleen, Wayne and Cass enjoyed their day out, despite the drizzle, social media is flooded with commemorative posts marking one year since the birth of WAGatha Christie.
On October 9, 2019, Coleen stunned her followers when she released a statement alleging that a fellow WAG had been leaking fake stories about her to the press, after she set up an elaborate plot to catch her.
Captioning her statement: ‘This has been a burden in my life for a few years now and finally I have got to the bottom of it……’, Coleen wrote: ‘For a few years now someone I trusted to follow me on my personal Instagram account has been consistently informing The Sun newspaper of my private posts and stories.
‘There has been so much information given to them about me, my friends and my family – all without my permission or knowledge. After a long time of trying to figure out who it could be, for various reasons, I had a suspicion.
‘To try and prove this, I came up with an idea. I blocked everyone from viewing my Instagram stories except ONE account. (Those on my private account must have been wondering why I haven’t had stories on there for a while.)
‘Over the past five months I have posted a series of false stories if they made their way into the Sun newspaper. And you know what, they did! The story about gender selection in Mexico, the story about returning to TV and then the latest story about the basement flooding in my new house.
‘It’s been tough keeping it to myself and not making any comment at all, especially when the stories have been leaked, however I had to. Now I know for certain which account/individual it’s come from.
‘I have saved and screenshotted all the original stories which clearly show just one person has viewed them. It’s……… Rebekah Vardy’s account.’
Rebekah – the wife of Leicester star Jamie Vardy – vehemently denied the allegations, and in June this year, the 38-year-old filed a defamation lawsuit against Coleen.
The mum-of-five will have to detail why exactly she believes she has been defamed (libelled if defamed in writing or slandered, if defamed by the spoken word) – that is, that her reputation was damaged by Coleen’s allegations.
It is said that the High Court battle could cost both sides £500,000 in costs.
Coleen’s lawyer, Paul Lunt of Brabners, issued a statement saying: ‘It is disappointing that Mrs Vardy has chosen to issue court proceedings.
‘Coleen feels that the time and money involved could be put to better use; her offer to meet face to face still stands.
‘Mrs Vardy’s decision to issue court proceedings does at least mean that Coleen’s evidence can be made public when the time is right.’
In the legal documents, Rebekah claims she has been made a ‘scapegoat’ by Coleen, and alleges that the star has approved her friends to leak stories to the press about her and Wayne’s marriage.
Coleen has since laid out her defence in a 55-page report, in which she shared her ‘fake’ Instagram stories – such as a snap from an airplane seat with the caption: ‘Let’s go and see what this gender selection is all about’.
The document says: ‘The unauthorised disclosure of private material from the Defendant’s private Instagram account was deeply distressing to the Defendant. The Defendant was left not knowing who to trust.’
The report is also thought to lay out the lengths Coleen went to in order to find out who was selling stories on her and, she claims, proves no one other than Rebekah could have passed on the stories to the press.
