Elton John fans feel ‘cheated’ as no refunds are due after concert was cut short

Sir Elton John fans have hit out at the legendary singer after discovering they are not entitled to any refunds after his concert was cut short due to illness.

The 72-year-old pop icon lost his voice in the middle of his set at Auckland's Mount Smart Stadium on Sunday.

"I've just completely lost my voice. I can't sing," Sir Elton told the crowd.

"I've got to go. I'm sorry," he said before leaving the stage.

The Tiny Dancer singer appeared to break down in tears as leaned into his piano and shook his head in annoyance.

And now frustrated spectators who attended the long-awaited show have been left feeling 'cheated' and 'disappointed' after the show finished earlier than expected.

Ticketmaster and Chugg Entertainment, the promoters who brought Sir Elton to New Zealand, have confirmed there won't be refunds for disappointed fans.

Michael Chugg of Chugg Entertainment told Newstalk New Zealand that the singer played for more than two hours, so there won't be refunds offered.

Organisers insist that Sir Elton will come back with a bang for his next Auckland concerts, which will definitely go ahead, despite having to call off last night's performance.

"He is resting today, and doctors are confident he will recover," a statement released through a publicist this morning said.

Annoyed by the latest update, fans took to Twitter to share their grievances about the unfortunate situation.

"I understand that poor Elton was ill, and that's not his fault. But ticket organisations should take into consideration what's happened and that thousands of people have paid a lot of money for this night," one frustrated fan wrote.

While another wrote: "I can't help but feel cheated and disappointed to know that tomorrow night, fans will get a proper show. Nothing against Elton, I love him but we should get some money back!".

Others remain in hope that he will be able to perform to the end in his next two shows.

"I have complete faith that if Elton can't perform then he will make the call to pull the plug. He's a true professional who won't give anything but 100 per cent."

Despite their disappointment at the time, the loyal audience still gave the singer a huge ovation as he walked carefully off stage, while helped by his assistants.

A downcast Sir Elton had earlier told the crowd that he had been diagnosed with walking pneumonia that same day.

Later on that night, the pop sensation apologised to his fans on Instagram as he explained that he was 'deeply upset' that his voice gave in and he was unable to finish the show.

He wrote: "I played and sang my heart out, until my voice could sing no more".

"I'm disappointed, deeply upset and sorry. I gave it all I had."

"Thank you so much for your extraordinary support and all the love you showed me during tonight's performance. I am eternally grateful. Love, Elton xx."

The concert was part of Sir Elton's epic Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which will be the Rocketman singer's final jaunt across the world.
