Jake Paul is known for his internet stunts. After all, that is how he has amassed over 19 million subscribers to his YouTube channel.
Jake has been accused of faking some of his life for YouTube, which isn’t all that unusual. No one’s life is interesting enough to film a video every day.
Recently, he got engaged to fellow YouTuber, Tana Mongeau. Their whirlwind romance took fans by surprise and made people wonder if this was just another stunt.
Jake and Mongeau’s relationship
The two YouTubers first met at a party in April. The next day one of his friends told him that he was flirting with Mongeau at the party.
“I don’t remember any of this happening, but she’s cute,” Jake said in his vlog of the day.
By May, the two were together and Mongeau had met Jake’s mom. At the seven-week mark, the pair even got matching tattoos.
On June 24, Jake surprised Mongeau with a cake that said “Tana, will you marry me,” while she was out in Las Vegas for her 21st birthday.
What does Logan Paul think?
Jake’s older brother, Logan, isn’t necessarily buying the Jake and Mongeau romance.
He recently went on KFC Radio to give his opinion on his brother’s new relationship.
“I don’t know what’s going on there [with Jake and Tana], man,” he said.
But he isn’t ruling out the idea that the whole thing is a way to make money.
“There’s no exchange [of money] but you can make money together,” he continued. “Like, say you make merch together, you probably split, like, 50/50 split. I hope so. Like, what if my brother’s, like, doing 80/20 with Tana? Oh, Tana, no! Tana, don’t do it! Damn, he been doing 80/20. He’s been doing 80/20.”
Fake relationships in the YouTube world are nothing new. Logan even had the chance to be in one, but he turned it down.
“I don’t do that s**t, bro… No, I don’t do that, bro,” he said of pretending to be in a relationship. “And I had an opportunity. Like, a big one, by the way. Like, I could have pounced in a relationship that would have, like, lit this s**t on fire.”
Logan thinks that being real on YouTube is the best way to go.
“When I was vlogging every day… I’d say 33 percent of it was contrived,” he said. “It’s low compared to most YouTubers. Like, I tried to keep it real. Now I’m trying to keep it way f**king real. Like, I try to make all my stuff absolutely authentic and real. And it’s just so much better. It’s so much healthier for me, having to not try to, like, force content.”
When will Jake and Mongeau get married?
The jury is still out on whether Jake and Mongeau’s relationship is actually real or not, but the two have already set a wedding date.
During Mongeau’s panel at VidCon in Anaheim, California, Jake appeared on stage and shared a poem.
“Welcome to the Paul family, we welcome you with love,” he said. “From the moment I met you, we fit like a glove. The world can question our fate, but on July 28, you can all save the date.”
Whether they actually go through with the wedding or not will be another story.
