Gogglebox favourite Ellie Warner has shared an emotional update with her fans online as she expressed her gratitude for their warm wishes and messages of support after she suffered a painful health scare earlier this week.
Things all started after the new mum welcomed her first child Ezra in June this year and had been determined to breast feed him since day one.
Initially things got off to a good start after some coaching from her midwife and she was able to feed Ezra successfully despite revealing he had a tongue tie.
However, a few weeks after his birth, Ellie developed an incredibly painful blocked milk duct, which eventually progressed to mastitis, an inflammation of the breast tissue which can cause pain, swelling and fever like symptoms.
Sharing her story on Instagram, Ellie told her followers about her experience: "I went to the GP who prescribed antibiotics but after 10 days, it turned into an abscess. The morning that the abscess burst, I was in so much pain that I was crying. I was scared to feed off the affected boob and couldn’t get seen by my own GP.
"I was beside myself and in a lot of pain, but the consultant in A&E was kind and referred me to the breast clinic the next day. I didn’t want this to be the end of my breastfeeding journey, as I wasn’t ready to stop. I was proud of what I’d achieved so far."
After being to the hospital, Ellie was advised to continue breastfeeding, as she admitted: "I carried on and felt some relief. The next morning I went back to the hospital to see an advanced nurse in practitioner in the breast clinic.”
She was then given some antibiotics to clear up the infection and was happy to report she was “feeling much better” within a few weeks.
Since sharing the candid and deeply personal story, countless other mums have reached out to Ellie to share their support, with many having experienced the frightening and painful condition for themselves.
This outpouring of love then prompted Ellie to thank her fans directly, as she told them: She said: "I've been reading the comments and messages, I don't have time to respond to everyone individually but I've found them all heartwarming and inspiring, so thanks again."
