Jim Carrey Dubbed Scum as Clip of Him Sexually Assaulting Alicia Silverstone Resurfaces

The ‘Dumb and Dumber’ actor is also being called ‘hypocrite’ as the old video resurfaces after he made comments about Will Smith and Chris Rock’s awkward Oscars confrontation.

AceShowbizJim Carrey is facing heavy criticism. The “Sonic the Hedgehog” actor has been slammed by social media critics, with many dubbing him “scum,” after an old video of him “sexually assaulting” Alicia Silverstone resurfaces.

In the old clip, the 60-year-old actor could be seen gracing the MTV Movie Awards stage in June 1997 after he took home the award for “The Cable Guy”. Shortly after receiving the honor, the actor forcibly kissed an uncomfortable Alicia, who was presenting the award, on the lips. At the time, he was 35 years old while “The Requin” actress was only 20 years old.

The clip resurfaced after Jim criticized Will Smith‘s infamous slap toward Chris Rock, noting that he was “sickened by the standing ovation” the crowd made after Will took home the Best Actor award for his performance in “King Richard“. He added, “I felt like Hollywood is just spineless en masse. It really felt like, ‘Oh, this is a really clear indication that we’re not the cool club anymore.’ “

Over on Twitter, critics called Jim a “hypocrite” and “scum” following his comment on Will’s slap as Jim himself had “sexually assaulted” someone. One user wrote, “In that case, Jim Carrey should be jailed for sexually assaulting a teenage Alicia Silverstone on stage at the 1997 MTV Awards, and then also trying to sexually assault Will Smith at the same awards show.”

“It’s amazing that Jim Carrey sexually assaulted Alicia Silverstone by physically forcing her to kiss him on national TV and it had literally no impact on his career whatsoever,” another critic chimed in. A third posted, “He forcibly kissed Alicia Silverstone AND also tried to do the same thing to Will Smith.” A separate Twitter user said, “Regardless of age or age gaps, what Jim Carrey did was ASSAULT. He’s scum and he had no business forcing himself on people!”

However, others defended Jim’s actions. “Just because he was wrong THEN doesn’t mean he isn’t right now? Like how hard is that to understand?? What Jim Carey did was wrong decades ago. And what Will did a couple days ago IS ALSO WRONG FFS,” said one person. A second commented, “What’s your point?? This was what 1996/7 things were way different then. Sorry but EPIC FAIL on your part trying to bash Jim Carrey. Next.”
