Good Morning Britain star Kate Garraway, 53, recently returned to the ITV show alongside her colleague Ben Shephard, 45. It comes as the TV host’s husband Derek Draper remains in hospital following his battle with coronavirus.
Jenni Falconer, 44, who joined Smooth Radio in January, has opened up about her colleague Kate who is currently absent from the airwaves – with Myleene Klass temporarily filling in for the GMB host’s radio slot.
The former Heart FM presenter spoke about a brief reunion with Kate at the Global Studio headquarters.
The DJ admitted she couldn’t “imagine” what her colleague is going through as the presenter added she is “praying Derek improves”.
Jenni revealed: “[Kate] was in and out for an interview with LBC the other week, so she was in the building.
“Also Myleene, who works with me, has been on the phone to her because she has been organising Billy’s birthday party, so I was saying hello to [Kate] the other day.”
Kate shares two children with her husband Derek; daughter Darcey, 14, and son Billy, 11, with the latter celebrating his birthday this month.
Jenni explained that the GMB host returning to the small-screen may be a big “help” for the mum-of-two with coping.
“I haven’t spoken to Kate in detail, but what she’s going through I just honestly couldn’t begin to imagine what it must be like,” the Smooth Radio host remarked.
“I think she is doing an incredible job of carrying on, and staying focused. I’m wondering if that’s a huge help.”
Jenni praised Kate for staying strong during this challenging time and added the “whole country” is behind her.
She commented: “Everyone is behind Kate. The whole country’s supporting her. And we all are praying that Derek improves.
“Honestly, I can’t imagine. I feel for Billy and Darcey. I can’t imagine what it must be like to be in that situation.”

Jenni’s comments come after Kate made a return to the Good Morning Britain studio for the first time in over three months.
She has been on hand to present the show as permanent hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid take a summer break.
The journalist hadn’t been seen on the air in her current role since the end of March after her husband Derek was admitted to hospital with coronavirus.
Kate recently gave another update on her other half’s fight against the effects of Covid-19 after an emotional visit to hospital earlier this week.
The GMB host revealed she has seen her husband Derek again, days after he saw her on TV for the first time since waking from his coma in the early months of July.
“It was quite a tough visit, he has had a tough couple of weeks, and it’s frustrating,” Kate told viewers.
Derek’s recovery will be a slow process as the virus has “attacked everything”, and left him with clots in his lungs.
She added: “But it’s always lovely to see him so it’s wonderful to have the chance to do that.”
Meanwhile, the Smooth Radio DJ is part of the hugely popular running app Start 2 Run, with Jenni as the coach.
She is the face and voice of the app which is ideal for people who need assistance to get started with running or established runners who want to improve their mileage, speed or distance.
Speaking about the benefits of the app, Jenni commented: “This running app will help anyone. During lockdown, I know a lot of people were tempted to start running but didn’t know how to start.
“If you haven’t run before it can be quite daunting doing that first run. So this app Start 2 Run, will be brilliant to help you. It will guide you through your first 5k.”
Jenni is the Start 2 Run coach – on Start 2 Run App which is available from the App Store and costs £2.99 per month or £24.99 for a yearly subscription.
