Sadly, there’s another name to add to the list of celebrities we’ve lost in 2020. John Callahan, a soap opera star who is perhaps best known for his work as Edmund Grey on All My Children, passed away at the age of 66 on March 28, 2020, at his home in Palm Springs, Calif. after suffering a stroke, according to Variety. Over the course of his career, Callahan also appeared on Days of Our Lives, Santa Barbara, and Falcon Crest.
Callahan was the father of an 18-year-old daughter, Kaya, who he shared with his former Days of Our Lives co-star, Eva LaRue, per the New York Post. Although the couple separated in 2005, LaRue took to Instagram to announce his passing with an emotional message, writing, “May Flights of Angels Wing You to Your Rest my Dear Friend. Your bigger than life, gregarious personality will leave a hole in our hearts forever.”
After listing things that Callahan loved and things that others loved about him, LaRue continued, “Kaya and I are beyond broken-hearted, so stunned … I hope Heaven has baseball and that your team always wins! The Yankees has [sic] just lost their biggest Fan.”
While Callahan’s family grieves his passing, former soap opera actress and television host Kelly Ripa also used social media to pay tribute to the man she once appeared with onscreen.

Over the years, John Callahan worked with many actors on a handful of soap operas, including Kelly Ripa, who appeared on All My Children with the actor. “Because there are no words, all i can muster is Rest In Peace #johncallahan,” Ripa wrote alongside a photo of Callahan and his former wife, Eva LaRue, while the couple was expecting their daughter, Kaya. “My heart breaks for you @evalarue and @kaya_callahan.”
Other stars who had known and worked with Callahan over the years also paid tribute to the actor. Ripa’s husband and All My Children alum, Mark Consuelos, commented on his wife’s post with a cryptic yet surely meaningful message, writing (via People), “RIP Johnny numbers. ‘There’s cash..-and then there’s cash, cash.’ JC.”
Sarah Michelle Gellar, who only appeared on All My Children for about two years, obviously formed a bond with Callahan. Sharing a photo of the pair at her high school graduation, she explained, “He stepped into a lot of moments in my life because I didn’t have a father to be there. … I promise you … just as you were there for me, I will always be there for smoosh (Kaya) and @evalarue as well.”
She continued, “This is all too much, especially right now, but I want the world to know how much you meant to so many people.”
