Kevin Clifton: ‘I’ve got to get used to it’ Stacey Dooley’s boyfriend speaks on romance

Kevin Clifton, 37, was crowned champion of Strictly Come Dancing alongside his dance partner and now girlfriend Stacey Dooley, 32. The professional dancer has candidly opened up about their romance as he admitted the investigative journalist’s work is “something he needs to get used to”.

I suppose it’s something I’ve got to get used to. She can handle herself.

The Strictly star, who rose to fame when he made his debut on the BBC dance competition in 2013, chatted alongside his sister Joanne Clifton, 36, in a recent interview.

The siblings are getting ready to partner together of their theatre show, Burn The Floor.

Speaking in OK! magazine, the Grimsby-born dancer admitted he is cautious about his girlfriend Stacey filming in dangerous locations but added “she can handle it”.

“I suppose it’s something I’ve got to get used to. She can handle herself,” Kevin explained.

“She’s being doing it for ten years so she knows what she’s doing.”

He continued: “She’s very good at what she does. Of course you’re hoping she’ll be okay but she’s very good at letting me know what’s happening.”

Kevin first met Stacey when they were partnered together on Strictly Come Dancing last year, with the pair winning the dance competition.

The investigative journalist recently addressed people’s interest in her love-life and admitted she was surprised “people gave a s**t”.

Kevin admittedly agreed with her standpoint as he said her investigative work is important and “in-depth”.

“What she was saying – and I get it – is she does some really in-depth stuff on serious world issues,” he said.

“But that doesn’t sell, so let’s go with ‘Who does she fancy?’ instead. It blows her mind a little bit.”

Meanwhile, Kevin recently took to Twitter and gushed over his girlfriend as he reminisced about her struggles in a throwback post on Instagram yesterday.

The professional dancer reflected on the star’s struggles during their rehearsals for the Paso Doble to mark one year since performing the routine.

Kevin shared a video a video of the dancing duo in training ahead of their performance in view of his 365,000 Instagram followers.

He commented: “1 year ago.. @bbcstrictly week 10 @sjdooley had been struggling all week in rehearsals.

“Couldn’t get through the choreography, wasn’t feeling confident about the dance.

“We got to the TV studio to do our first camera run and it all started to click…. #pasodooley #pasoversary.”

Back in April, Stacey’s now ex-boyfriend Sam Tucknott told The Sun the pair had split up and she was now dating Kevin.

The Strictly professional and the BBC star kept their relationship under wraps until she spoke out about their romance for the first time in July.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday at 7.10pm.
