Kevin Clifton: ‘Want to be on my own’ Stacey Dooley’s beau in candid admission after win

Kevin Clifton, 37, who recently confirmed he is dating last year’s Strictly Come Dancing winner Stacey Dooley, 32, has revealed that he fled the wrap party when the BBC series reached the finale in 2018. The Grimsby-born dancer has now revealed he went home to be “on his own”.

I just wanted to go home and be on my own with a cup of tea. And that’s what I did.

Speaking to Simon Mundie on the BBC’s Don’t Tell Me The Score podcast, Kevin admitted he went home and watched Match Of The Day rather than celebrate his victory with his co-stars.

He explained: “When we won Strictly last year there was that moment of madness when they said our names. I just got really emotional at that moment because I couldn’t believe what had happened.

“It’s the end and you’re tired. It’s the end of that process and it’s all come together. So I was really emotional when it happened.”

He continued: “I went to the wrap party that everybody goes to at the end of the series. Everyone just wants to be together.

“Everyone wanted to come over and say ‘Come on…you were amazing. Can I have a picture with your Glitterball’

“People were calling and texting me. My phone was going mental.”

Kevin added: “It was a weird feeling. All I wanted to do at that point was go home. I just wanted to go home and be on my own with a cup of tea. And that’s what I did.”

The pro dancer said he went home to bed and had a cup of tea instead of partying.

“I left the wrap party really early. Everyone parties until 4am. And I just went home and put Match Of The Day on,” Kevin said.

He finished: “I went home, made a cup of tea and got in bed. Put my Glitterball on the side table.

“I didn’t really want to talk to anyone. Didn’t want to talk about it. It was done.”

Kevin first met Stacey when they were partnered together on Strictly Come Dancing last year, with the pair winning the dance competition.

Back in April, Stacey’s now ex-boyfriend Sam Tucknott told The Sun the pair had split up and she was now dating Kevin.

The Strictly professional and the BBC star kept their relationship under wraps until she spoke out about their romance for the first time in July.

Meanwhile, the couple have reportedly not been able to see each other since October due to their busy work schedules.

Stacey flew out to Korea on October 14 after celebrating her professional dancer beau’s birthday the day before.

She recently opened up about her love life and said she is surprised “people give a s**t”.

The journalist took to Instagram and shared a snippet of a recent interview with Hunger magazine where she addressed stories focusing on her private life.

She told the publication: “It honestly blows my mind that people give a s**t about who I fancy, or who I’m dating, when professionally I’m conducting interviews with some of the most recognisable terrorists in the world.

“Or covering paedophilic rings. Or discussing youth homelessness. Or conflict in Syria and Iraq. Or mental health units. Femicide rates in Honduras… I could go on and on.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday on BBC One at 7.05pm.
