Kristin Cavallari Was "Blindsided" by Jay Cutler's Claims in Divorce Filing

Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler announced their divorce after 10 years together over the weekend, and things have taken a turn for the messy. Despite posting joint statements to Instagram saying they “have nothing but love and respect for one another,” the couple’s divorce documents paint a pretty dramatic picture. According to Entertainment Tonight, Kristin reportedly cited “marital misconduct” and “irreconcilable differences” in documents filed April 24, while Jay cited “irreconcilable differences” in documents filed April 21.

In other words, Jay pulled the trigger on the divorce, and according to E! News, Kristin was “blindsided” and “didn’t know” it was coming. Per a source, “She had hoped they could work things out more amicably and they were off to a good start before Jay pulled the trigger.”

On top of that, another source says Kristin was “caught off guard” by Jay claiming that he was “the available at home parent and the primary caretaker of the parties’ minor children.”

“His filing was basically trying to take her out of the equation so she had to respond strongly,” the source said. “She’s not going to be taken out of the equation when it comes to her children.”

Apparently, Kristin is going to fight for full custody because she “feels she can raise the kids in the safest environment,” and a source says that “Jay was playing for the NFL a majority of their marriage, for him to call himself the primary caregiver just because he is retired and she is working is not accurate.”

Yikes, here’s to hoping things don’t get any messier.
