Lioness star Alessia Russo’s life away from sport including close family bonds

Alessia Russo's stunning backheel in Tuesday 26 July evening's win against Sweden has received worldwide praises as she is now the joint-second top scorer at the Euro 2022 tournament.

The 23 year old has helped to propel the England Lionesses into Euro final on Sunday 31 July and fans of the young striker would no doubt want to see more of her incredible talent. BBC pundit Ian Wright even compared Alessia to football legend Lionel Messi.

He said: '''Lessi', not Messi, for what she has done when she comes on. I don't know what she has to do to start a game."

But while the star's away perfecting her next smashing performance, let's take a look at Alessia's life away from the sport including her close family bonds…

Alessia and her family

The Manchester United player hails from Maidstone in Kent, where she rose through the ranks to become a star in women's football. She was born of Italian descent after her Sicilian grandfather moved to England in the 1950s.

It seems a love of the sport runs in her family as her father Mario reportedly played non-league football for the Met Police while her brother Giorgio played non-league for Ramsgate in Kent.

Alessia began her career at Charlton Athletic's centre of excellence before embarking on Chelsea's development squad. The youngster made an appearance at her first-round Continental Cup match in 2016 before she cemented her Brighton position in 2017 where she played seven games and scored three goals.

It wasn't long before she decided to move to the US where she was part of a college soccer team called North Carolina Tar Heels. She made 57 appearances whilst there before announcing she was quitting college due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic in August 2020.

Alessia has a close relationship with her family who are often seen at her matches as well as on her Instagram feed. In April she shared a snap of herself alongside her mother, father and brother and captioned the image: "Another special week".

From games to family outings, England’s new superstar and goal scorer likes to have brunch with her mother and grandmother. The star penned a series of snaps shared to her 172,000 followers with the caption: "It’s all about the little things Auguri Nonna," followed by a heart emoji.

Alessia's lavish getaways

While she is not playing the beautiful game, Alessia enjoys the finer things in life, including sunny vacations with her pals. From Los Angeles and Malibu to France, the star appears to be living her best life with pictures and video clips as memorabilia.

In a post shared in March, the star penned: "Cheers to LA over and out," while in another post with her friends she wrote: "Malibu Memories".

The athlete visited France this year and captioned her stunning posts: "Great few days in Paris helping break down barriers with @globalsportsweek x @adidasfootball and we found some time to do some exploring along the way."
