'Live!' hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos get candid about their 'ludicrous sexual rituals,' plus more news

Kelly Ripa and her husband of 26 years talk keeping the spark alive

On the very first edition of her new SiriusXM podcast “Let’s Talk Off Camera,” Kelly Ripa and her husband of 26 years Mark Consuelos got candid about the ups and downs in their marriage through the years. While the downs included common issues– the need to communicate better, Mark’s erstwhile jealousy, Kelly’s claim she was stuck with more parenting duties when their kids were young — the ups were far more scintillating. Case in point? The “sexual rituals”the couple relied on in 2020 when he was filming “Riverdale” during strict COVID-19 protocols. With just one two-week reunion during a 10-month stint apart, Kelly said they had to come up with a way to their sex life going in spite of the distance. That’s where the online “sexual rituals” came in, they revealed, noting that they were pretty “ludicrous over FaceTime.”

“I became so alarmed at my appearance over FaceTime that I started rigging the computer to hang from a ladder … so that I could look up to Mark and he did not have to see what gravity was actually doing,” quipped the “Live!” host, 51. “You get really close to yourself in situations when you’re separated from your husband for long periods of time.” It sounds like the FaceTime sexy-time was important, too. Elsewhere in the podcast, Mark, 51, said the only “potential deal breaker” for him as far as their marriage would be if Kelly “cut [him] off sexually.”

I think it’s beautiful to believe in that. I mean, I’m so grateful I did.” Addressing claims she and Tom broke up over his decision to return to the NFL, Gisele slammed the gossip as “very hurtful,” and “the craziest thing I’ve ever heard,” telling the magazine she loves and supports her ex no matter what, especially because they now share co-parenting duties. “Listen, I have always cheered for him, and I would continue forever. Aaron Sorkin reveals a stroke nearly killed him in 2022

“You’re supposed to be dead.” That’s what Aaron Sorkin recalls his doctor telling him after he suffered a stroke due to high blood pressure in November 2022. He was writing his first-ever Broadway musical — an adaptation of “Camelot” — when he suffered the medical emergency and he knows just why it happened. “Mostly it was a loud wake-up call,” the screenwriter told the New York Times in an interview published this week. “I thought I was one of those people who could eat whatever he wanted, smoke as much as he wanted, and it’s not going to affect me. Boy, was I wrong.” He added that if going public with what happened can “get one person to stop smoking then it’ll be helpful.” The “Molly’s Game” and “West Wing” writer said he’s since changed his diet and started exercising after the potentially fatal health scare. Though he said he’s now “fine” and wanted to “make it very, very clear” that he can now work just as he always has, “There was a minute when I was concerned that I was never going to be able to write again and I was concerned in the short term that I wasn’t going to be able to continue writing ‘Camelot.'”

Bruce Springsteen, Mindy Kaling and more honored with National Medal of Arts

The mantles in Bruce Springsteen’s house must be getting pretty full. After winning 20 Grammy Awards, an Oscar, a Tony and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the singer and songwriter was honored at the White House on Tuesday (March 21) with the National Medal of Arts. (It was, in fact, the 2021 medal, but the ceremony was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.) Bruce joined fellow honorees including Gladys Knight, Mindy Kaling, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Vera Wang for the event, which saw President Joe Biden praise each recipient for their contributions to arts and culture in the United States over the years. “We’re a nation, a great nation, in large part because of the power of the arts and humanities. That’s stamped into the DNA of America,” the president said during the ceremony, according to CNN. “Today … (we) continue the legacy of awarding two of our nation’s highest honors to 23 extraordinary Americans.” In addition to bestowing the 2021 National Medals of Arts on winners, the president celebrated recipients of the 2021 National Humanities Medals. It was his first ceremony for the medals since he took office.

Jewel says her mother embezzled ‘more than $100 million’ from her

Singer Jewel recently opened up about her challenging relationships with her parents — including an allegation her mother stole a massive amount of money from her while serving as her business manager. “I didn’t really realize what my mom was until I was 30-something,” the singer recalled on this week’s edition of the “Verywell Mind Podcast.” “I woke up and realized she embezzled all of my money, over $100 million.” Now 48, Jewel was close with her mother at the time, though she said she now looks at her very differently than she once did. “Thirty-four years old, realize I’m $3 million in debt, realize my mom stole it, realize everything I thought my mom was, isn’t what she was, very difficult psychological thing to come to terms with,” the four-time Grammy nominee shared. She went on to recall how after her parents divorced when she was 8, she went to live with her abusive father. “Nobody told me it’s because my mom didn’t want to be a mom. She left us, and so my dad took over raising us. I didn’t know that at the time,” she said. “My dad was this volatile alcoholic that hit me, very easy to identify ‘bad guy.’ My mom seemed like the opposite. She was calm, she was soft, she never yelled, obviously never hit me. And I didn’t realize I was being abused in another way at the time.”

Despite their rocky past, Jewel has said she’s made amends with her dad, but not her mom. Still, she won’t demonize either parent. “Life gives us each incredible things to overcome. And, sometimes, we do well or we do worse…,” she told the San Diego Tribune in 2015. “My mother and father are just human, not all good or bad.”
