Mark Wright has reflected on being given "another taste of the beautiful game" shortly after Crawley Town confirmed they had released him after just six months.

After hitting the big time on reality show, The Only Way Is Essex, the former semi-professional was given another shot at the sport he adored and joined the League Two club in December.

His time with the team has now come to an end, with Crawley confirming him as one of six players to depart the team along with a statement reading: "Mark joined the Reds in December 2020, having undergone a successful trial period with the club.

"Since joining, Wright featured on two occasions for Crawley, the first coming in the Emirates FA Cup against Leeds United and the other in League action against Harrogate Town.

"The club would like to extend their thanks to the six players that are departing this summer. Their efforts for the club have been faultless, and we wish them well for the future," it was concluded.

Mark, who was previously on the academy books at West Ham, Arsenal and Tottenham, made two appearances with the club – one of which they reigned supreme over Leeds United in January.

The star also had the opportunity to play football alongside his brother Josh Wright and discussed his ambition to revive his football career in the BBC documentary, The Last Chance.

In a post shared on his Instagram on Tuesday, Mark thanked his fans for their support, as well as Crawley Town for "giving him the amazing opportunity to do what I love one last time".

He wrote: "Thanks to everyone for your support on this journey and for those that watched the doc on the BBC.

"It was only ever going to be a short run due to my other work commitments, which I must admit I found very challenging, juggling everything together but we made it work and what an incredible experience it was, the fact I got to do this with my brother @joshwright4444 too is something as kids we could have only ever dreamed for.

"Injuries got in the way of fulfilling this journey to its full potential, but the fact I even had another taste of the beautiful game, will be something I'll never forget."

Noting that it was "another life goal" he had checked off his list, Mark concluded his post by saying: "P.s I may do pre season with the club to get next level fit as I never did a pre season last year.

"So Crawley fans if you're back by then I hope to see ya then."
