Naga Munchetty’s co-star reacts after being insulted over outfit choice: ‘How dare you!’

Naga Munchetty apologises for radio silence during interview

Naga Munchetty, 45, often receives numerous compliments on social media for her outfit choices on BBC Breakfast, stealing the show with bold patterns or simple elegance, and fans can’t wait to see what she’ll be wearing next. But while her wardrobe choice sports a wide variety of items, colours and styles, there’s one trend she isn’t on-board with, and that’s double denim – something she made very clear to her co-star.

Proper crime against fashion, that

She even went as far as branding it a “crime against fashion”, which didn’t go down so well when her Radio 5 Live colleague Nihal Arthanayake, admitted it’s a style he sports quite often.

Wednesday 20th January was a big one for America, as Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th President Of The United States, as Donald Trump’s term came to an end.

Among those in attendance at the historic moment was former President and First Lady Barak and Michelle Obama, the Clintons, Lady GaGa – who sang the national anthem – and Jennifer Lopez and Bruce Springsteen both performed at the ceremony.

Discussing what was to come at the inauguration, Naga asked CBS correspondent Skylar Henry who was at the Capitol, about who viewers should be looking out for at the concert.

“Jennifer Lopez!” Skylar laughed.

J-Lo opted for a stunning white Chanel ensemble to sing This Land Is Your Land and America The Beautiful.

Directing her attention to Nihal, she wondered what he would have chosen as a big fan of music.

“I think if the Foo Fighters did the version of Times Like This, which they did on Saturday Night Live back in November, that would be a spine-tingling moment,” he said.

Naga agreed as she replied: “I’m intrigued by Lady Gaga.”

“She’s going to make it [the national anthem] fantastic!

“And what is she going to wear?”

Gaga has become famous for her extravagant and outrageous outfits over the years, but this time she opted for something rather simple.

Taking to the stage at the inauguration to sing the national anthem, she was a vision of glamour as she made a patriotic statement in a stunning blue and red Schiaparelli ballgown.

The dress also featured a striking gold dove, seemingly a message of unity as it held an olive branch in its mouth.

Nihal called it as he believed she would go for more “formal” attire that her usual eye-catching outfits.

Naga wasn’t so sure: “I don’t know, I wouldn’t guarantee that. It’s a new dawn isn’t it for those who are supporters of Joe Biden, offering something different, loosening the shackles maybe…” she thought.

After discussing Springsteen’s iconic double denim style, Nihal admitted he was “100 percent” a fan of the look.

“Proper crime against fashion that,” Naga shook her head as her co-star took offence.

“How dare you!” he replied, shocked.

“I think you don’t do double, you have to triple,” Naga suggested, “Embrace it!”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One and Naga’s Radio 5 Live slot will begin at 10am.
