Phillip Schofield: Dancing on Ice host in shock swipe at judge John Barrowman’s new look

Phillip Schofield, 57, made a light-hearted remark about John Barrowman’s new hairstyle on Dancing on Ice tonight. The presenter teased the star, who is joining the reality show’s judging panel for the 2020 series, while introducing him to the audience.

While discussing John’s new role on the show, Phillip’s co-host Holly Willoughby turned to him and said: “Hey listen, you’ve got competition for the silver fox this year.”

Phillip exclaimed in response: “I know, he’s rocking it, look at that.”

However, the This Morning favourite couldn’t help but take a cheeky swipe at his silver haired rival, as he added: “Looks like a badger though.”

Fortunately, John saw the funny side of the comment and burst into laughter as Holly interjected: “But a hot one!”

Holly previously introduced John onto the show as “our brand new judge with a brand new hairstyle”.

The former Doctor Who actor gushed about being the latest addition to the panel.

He said: “What I bring is a lot of showbiz. I love ice skating.

“When you’ve actually done it, which I have, it changes everything as you know what they’re going through.

“I will have my skates on underneath the table every show…and you think I’m kidding.”

Elsewhere, Phillip spoke out about beating Strictly Come Dancing by including same-sex pairings on Dancing on Ice for the first time.

The TV personality addressed the move after it was revealed that pro skater Matt Evers and Steps singer Ian ‘H’ Watkins will perform together in the new series.

Strictly has faced pressure to bring same-sex pairings into the format and this year the BBC show featured Johannes Radebe and fellow professional Graziano di Prima dancing together to Emeli Sande’s Shine.

Speaking about Dancing on Ice making the move first to The Sun Online, Phillip said: “What’s lovely about that is It’s a big deal this year, but then either next year when we or Strictly or whoever does it, then it won’t be.”

The presenter went on to suggest if Strictly includes same-sex dancing duos on the show next year, it “won’t be as extraordinary”.

He added: “It can be second and it won’t be as extraordinary.

“It’s the dynamics of the performance, how they work together.”
