Piers Morgan, 54, and Dan Walker, 42, are known to never shy away from some cheeky banter on social media and it was no different when the Good Morning Britain frontman took aim at the correspondent. The BBC Breakfast star appeared on The Chase Celebrity Special alongside music legend Mark King, reality star Fearne McCann and MSP Ruth Davidson. In view of his 578,000 followers, Dan retweeted a message from a viewer who congratulated the celebrities for going for the £104,000 cash prize on the quiz show. The Football Focus host said: “Well done guys. We had a fantastic time #GoBigOrGoHome (or go big and go home).”
Piers certainly saw this as an opportunity to hit back at his rival colleague.
The outspoken host tweeted: “It was more #GoBigAfterDansGoneHome.”
Fans rushed to respond on the post, as one person said: “They need to get you on Piers.”
Another person commented: “Can’t wait to see @piersmorgan do it now.”
Fortunately, Dan appeared to see the funny side of Piers quip and admitted he was in fact watching BBC and not ITV.
He replied: “Sssssh… I’m watching @bbcstrictly with Mrs W.”
Piers jibe comes after Dan appeared on the ITV programme who went up against quizmaster Paul Sinha.
The BBC Breakfast star raised £8,000 in the cash builder challenge and decided to play for £104,000 against The Chaser for his chosen charity.
But he was only able to answer one question correctly out of three and was therefore booted out of the competition.
The GMB host tweeted: “Well that’s made me feel a lot better about my @ITVChase debacle…@mrdanwalker,” followed by laughing face emojis.
Dan retweeted Piers’ comment and said: “I’ve blanked the whole experience out. Did we win?”
Fans flocked to respond, as one person said: “Gutted for you Dan but you still got a fabulous £1000 for @SheffChildrens and we’re super proud of you!”
Another person chimed: “Well done @mrdanwalker you gave it you’re all.”
A third person added: “Just watched it mate and those questions were tough.”
Earlier this year, the BBC star poked fun at Piers by retweeting a photo of the GMB co-anchor after taking part in the viral craze, the FaceApp challenge.
Dan captioned the tweet: “Is that the stress of trying to compete with BBC breakfast? Have a nice holiday.”
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6.30am on BBC One and Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at the same time on ITV.
