Queen tells Meghan Markle and Prince Harry they’re ‘not allowed to use the Sussex Royal title’

The Queen has reportedly decided Meghan Markle and Prince Harry must drop their title of Sussex Royal after stepping down as senior members of the Royal family.

After long talks between The Queen and senior officials, it is believed they came to the decision that the couple should no longer be able to use the word "royal" as part of their personal branding and merchandising.

A royal source explained that the use of the term Royal by the pair "needed to be reviewed" as they work towards achieving financial independence leading their lives in Canada with baby Archie.

The source told Mail Online: "As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are stepping back as senior members of the royal family and will work towards financial independence, use of the word 'royal', in this context, needed to be reviewed.

"As part of the process to transition the Duke and Duchess of Sussex into their new chapter, planning has been well underway around the launch of their new non profit organisation."

The couple first began using the title when they created their own household and subsequent Instagram page after splitting from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Kensington Palace.

The development comes as a huge blow to Meghan, 38, and her 35 year old husband Prince Harry as they launched a brand new website to represent them.

It's thought that the website was first registered in March last year and had been secretly developed, with a helping hand from Meghan herself.

The site claims it will act as a place where factual information about the pair will live as the two would be taking a step back from the Royal family because they "value the ability to earn a professional income, which in the current structure they are prohibited from doing."

It comes as it was recently reported that Meghan and Harry are closing down their office in Buckingham Palace.

The couple's decision has resulted in approximately 15 job losses, a source has said. They are believed to have broken the news to their team in a face-to-face meeting after making their decision to move to Canada known.

"Given their decision to step back, an office at Buckingham Palace is no longer needed," the insider told Mail Online.
