Rob Rinder admits he was ‘punching’ with joke engagement to Rylan Clark

Rob Rinder reflects emotionally on the loss of his dog, Rocco

TV presenter and barrister Rob Rinder has confessed that he agrees with people who said he was “punching” after he and Rylan Clark posted a joke engagement announcement recently.

The pair have been filming a new travel show together and posted a joke betrothal to X, formerly known as Twitter, against a romantic Italian backdrop.

However, the joke got out of hand when congratulations started flooding in.

“I’d had wine. I showed it to Rylan first and we thought it would be funny,” Rob said in his defence.

“What we didn’t anticipate was people’s lack of irony and the number who stopped to congratulate us. Though they were saying I was punching above my weight. Seems reasonable. I’d have to agree,” he conceded in an interview with MailOnline.

Rob is currently single after splitting from ex-partner, fellow barrister Seth Cummings in 2018, after eleven years together.

The pair had a civil partnership in Ibiza in 2013 officiated by none other than Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch.

In January this year, he showed off a total body transformation after a 10-day health break in Portugal with other famous faces including Carol Vorderman, Alex Scott and Alison Hammond.

Posting an image of his ripped physique he told his 267.4 thousand followers, it was partly down to his “juicing and 70km” walks.

However, the following month he sparked concern when he was taken to hospital for “life changing surgery” hours after hosting Good Morning Britain.

He took to Twitter to share a picture of him lying back in bed hooked up to a drip, as he explained what had happened.

“Started the day holding politicians to account on @GMB and interviewing Lulu and Richie Sambora…” he wrote.

“Finished it having a prolapsed disc in my back repaired & healed… Life can change in a moment… Hold on to joy wherever you find it (thanks brilliant medical team).” (sic)

He appears to be recovered now and has several projects coming up.

Alongside the travel show with Rylan, in which the pair re-create a 19th-century Grand Tour, he’ll also be fronting Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond The Lobby alongside TV chef Monica Galetti and has an upcoming series about prisons, examining issues such as capital punishment.
