Every season of The Bachelor, host Chris Harrison promises viewers it’ll be “the most dramatic season” yet and we have to say, this time, that catchphrase delivered with an added twist!!
On Monday night during part one of the big finale, Peter Weber invited his family to meet the final two women vying for his heart! That meant we also finally found out who his mom Barbara Weber has been crying over in the clip that has been teased from the very beginning of the season, and let’s just say Bachelor Nation was NOT prepared for that kind of outcome!
The final two dates kick off with 23-year-old Hannah Ann Sluss, who appears to immediately win over Peter’s family with her sweet smile and unwavering display of affection for the airline pilot. It’s not long before Barbara declares the young model is the perfect match for her son, even claiming to see a little bit of herself in Hannah Ann. After that seemingly flawless date, the Webers spend one-on-one time with 23-year-old Madison Prewitt and the difference in reception couldn’t be more obvious than the scar still healing on Peter’s head!
Momma Barb quickly puts Madison in the hot seat for telling her son it would be hard for her to move forward with their relationship if he was intimate with other women during the Fantasy Suite dates. She was adamant about protecting Pete’s sexual freedom and interests in a conversation that felt invasive and awkward even for the most progressive viewer out there.
Except the problem is, the matriarch did a poor job of delivering that message and appeared to shame the openly devout Christian contestant for being honest about her personal choices! Peter’s father, Peter Sr., made things even worse when he pointed out the 28-year-old bachelor likes to party and go line-dancing and argued that Madison’s church-going lifestyle seemed too off-brand for his son. Yikes.
While Pete’s family did make a few valid points, their approach to the situation has been slammed online by fans who think they gave Madison an especially hard time for sticking to her beliefs. This whole season, fans were led to believe Barb was crying over Madison, who has kept Peter in the palm of her hands regardless of their differences. As it turns out, Barbara thinks it’s Hannah Ann who Peter shouldn’t let go of!
However, the intense conversation with Peter’s family seemed to push Madison over the edge and she breaks things off with him before the episode ends. Despite having another solid connection with Hannah Ann, it’s painfully obvious Pete’s heart lies with Madison.
For Barb’s part, she responded to the Maddy backlash on Instagram Monday night. A fan wrote under her latest pic:
“Can people please leave her alone! Barb, I think you did the right thing.”
And the pilot’s mom replied:
“Thanks but I ignore all negatives!!”
Ok then!
According to the promo for Tuesday night, the star-crossed lovers might get another chance at love when Madison returns to crash the final proposal. Check out the juicy teaser (below):
