In a new update, Tom confirmed he is on the mend and back working.
He told his two million Instagram followers: “Happy New Year! I think this is the first time that I have been on this year.
“I was a bit ill over Christmas…I was really ill over Christmas – I had this thing with my eye.
“Anyway, it is a long story, but I just wanted to say sorry I’ve not been on here much, I’ve been snowed under with work.”
Tom then explained that he has been working on two musicals and a novel at the same time which he said is “fun but challenging”.
According to the NHS, uveitis is the inflammation of the middle layer of the eye and can cause pain and changes to vision.
Most cases require steroid treatment but sometimes the condition can be serious and lead to further eye problems such as glaucoma and cataracts.
Last month, Tom confirmed he was receiving steroid medication and had been wearing sunglasses to protect his eyes from light.
He penned: “I was wiped out with some sort of illness and in bed for a few days. I just got back on my feet yesterday and uveitis decided to kick me down again.
“For now, it’s dark rooms, sunglasses and 6 weeks of steroids.”
Just last week, Tom was still describing his eye as “dodgy” but vowed that it “wasn’t going to stop” him.
