Tom Petty’s Estate Shares New ‘Leave Virginia Alone’ Video

Tom Petty‘s estate has released a video for “Leave Virginia Alone,” featuring actress and dancer Casimere Jollette.

The late singer wrote the song in 1993 and recorded it a year later for his solo album Wildflowers but it didn’t find place in the record when it was released.

Petty gave the song to Rod Stewart, whose version reached No. 10 on the Adult Contemporary chart in 1995.

Petty’s version of the song is now part of Wildflowers & All the Rest box set put together by his family and his Heartbreakers bandmates Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench. The set is due out on October 16 via Warner Records.

Mark Seliger and Petty’s daughter Adria Petty co-directed “Leave Virginia Alone” that portrays a woman navigating many different parts of her life.

“We were very resourceful about trying to create a character that could be assigned to anyone,” Adria told David Fricke on SiriusXM‘s Tom Petty Radio. “We really worked to cast someone authentic—that felt like they were really feeling their feelings and someone that you could believe. We really wanted the song to do the heavy lifting in this video, and sort of step out of the way and just give it something to breathe with.”

Petty’s estate had earlier released “You Don’t Know How It Feels,” “There Goes Angela (Dream Away)” and “Confusion Wheel,” some of the other songs from the upcoming Wildflowers & All The Rest box set.
