Andreas Kronthaler emphasized the importance of clothing and self-expression for his interpretation of his wife’s Vivienne Westwood label for Fall/Winter 2022.
Kronthaler’s reimagined ensembles featured men’s and women’s designs, with each runway look having a fluid yet genderless appeal. The garment constructions allow the wearer to envision themselves any way they wish, offering silk side-paneled trousers, peaked-lapel evening coats, and voluminous athletic-inspired joggers – with drawstring tabs – for maximum comfort.
Inspired by the world of theater – a place where Kronthaler says “everything is possible” – he also showcased a splendid mix of satin tops, corseted crepe gowns, duchess fabrics, crinoline neckpieces and masks.
Speaking on his inspiration for the collection, Kronthaler said:
“Art is an imitation of life; it stands outside time. It’s more about making clothes than fashion. I wanted to do something noble and formal, to make a moving painting – a picture come to life in order to seduce the mind through the eyes. You discover the truth through working and learn something from it.”
“Clothes are able to mirror your inner being, whether it is happiness, harmony, fear, kindness, anger, and respect. But more than any other quality, I am looking for lightness,” he added.
Fashion enthusiasts can find Kronthaler’s complete FW22 collection for Vivienne Westwood on the brand’s website.
Elsewhere in fashion week, Tom Ford’s FW22 collection highlighted a nostalgic luxe for menswear.
