Britney Spears spotted in Mexico amid rumours she was in UK ahead of Glastonbury

Britney Spears fuelled rumours she would be making a surprise appearance at Glastonbury this weekend after she was spotted with her husband at Mexico airport.

For weeks, fans have speculated the star will join Elton John on stage as he closes out the Somerset-based festival but so far there has been no confirmation from either side.

Her potential Elton collaboration was sparked after she set Instagram alight with a picture of a print from the online art community Notre Arte.

The image showed a McDonald’s meal next to a jar of roses and was posted with a caption containing three British flags.

Following a getaway to Mexico with her husband Sam Asghari, 29, the 41-year-old singer was snapped during what looked like her departure from the exotic location.

She was seen loading bags onto a cart and dressed in comfy tracksuits that appeared to be her aeroplane clothes.

Britney pulled the hood of her white jumper over her head as photographers clicked away at the couple through a wired fence.

The star covered her eyes with black sunglasses and clutched a small handbag and her phone between her fingers.

Sam sported a pink t-shirt, black cap and matching black shorts during the moment that was caught on camera.

The Mexico sighting came as eagle-eyed fans claimed they saw the American hitmaker land in Bristol airport ahead of her speculated performance date.

News of her movements broke on Facebook as fans posted notes claiming they had glimpsed the superstar while arriving at the airport close to the festival’s venue.

Britney and Elton have joined forces in the past, working on their track Hold Me Closer (Tiny Dancer) only last year.

Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis has teased details of Sir Elton’s Pyramid stage show, saying the singer has been ‘carving out a set that’s going to be completely unique’ to the iconic event.

The Rocket Man singer will give a historic performance to close the 2023 festival on Sunday night, with a show that has been billed as the final UK gig of his farewell tour.

Speaking to the Glastonbury Free Press, the festival’s on-site newspaper, Emily said: ‘What a send-off that’s going to be. I cannot wait to welcome him in and show him what Glastonbury is all about.’
