Call Of Duty season 4 rebrands Warzone and teases The Boys crossover

A meaty blog post from Activision lays out everything you need to know about Call Of Duty season 4, including its new Vondel map.

While this year’s Call Of Duty game wasn’t announced at Summer Game Fest, Geoff Keighley and Activision did share a trailer for the next season of content for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0.

Although going forward, Warzone 2.0 will just be referred to as Warzone, which is a bit weird since the original Warzone is still available. So, whether Activision plans to change its name too, shut it down, or just have two games called Warzone run at the same time isn’t clear yet.

The main focus of the trailer is a new Warzone map – Vondel – which was leaked earlier this week and will be available across both the Resurgence and DMZ modes when the new season launches in less than a week’s time on Wednesday June 14.

The map will also be included in the new limited time Lockdown mode, which is aiming to arrive on June 28.

Inspired by the Hardpoint multiplayer mode from the mainline Call Of Duty games, Lockdown tasks teams with capturing and holding zones around the map.

Activision says that the average Lockdown match should last roughly twice as long as a Hardpoint match but be short enough to feasibly fit four of them in the space of an hour.

While Warzone once again appears to be getting the lion’s share of the updates, Modern Warfare 2 will receive six new multiplayer maps (plus a seventh one during the mid-season) and the final Raid episode.

You can find a meatier breakdown of what season 4 has in store on the official website though one thing it doesn’t touch upon is the teased crossover with The Boys.

Activision hasn’t really said anything about it but, right near the end of the new trailer, the superhero show’s logo can be spotted on the side of a building.

It’s not exactly subtle so there are most likely plans to add a couple of characters from The Boys as skins. Especially since Call Of Duty has featured similar crossovers with other properties like Terminator, Godzilla, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Coincidentally enough, there are rumours of The Boys’ Homelander being a guest DLC character in Mortal Kombat 1, which is scheduled to launch this September.

Call Of Duty season 4 launches on June 14.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone are available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
